Intro:

  • Ever since Captain Marvel came out, I've been looking for a way to exploit her response. With enough , she can do 3 damage, and stun an enemy before she even attacks. Combined with Command Team and Rapid Response, she could do 9 damage and stun. Then come back the same round for 6 more damage and another stun. With the Steady affect coming out with The Hood, a double stun would be really nice. 15 damage in a round is kinda cool, too. This deck has 26 printed resources. That's more than enough to get the necessary 2 every Captain Marvel pull.

  • But Inigo, what about all those Avenger heroes that love to use resources? Well, Thor's hand size limit made it take forever for Captain Marvel to get on the board. Then when she did it was just too tough to pay for her. I could add Sneak Attack but then the percentage goes down. Captain Marvel loves Energy, but she's out, obviously. So, is Spider-Woman since she already has a Captain Marvel\Carol Danvers ally.

  • Iron Man loves him some resources, but if we're talking about small hand size...yikes. No wonder he wears gloves. I did make a fun deck with Iron Man, but it would only work in multiplayer since it takes 3 rounds to set up. The Avengers that did work with and Captain Marvel were Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Those decks are coming later!

  • (note: Captain Marvel's card on this site is wrong. She costs 5, and has an attack of 3.)

  • As much as I'm talking about Captain Marvel, this deck works great without her. "Welcome Aboard", What Could Go Wrong?, Command Team and Rapid Response are the starts of this show, and make it so you almost always have an ally on the board.

Setup and Gameplay:

  • Opening hand - Mulligan into Star-Lord's Helmet, Leader of the Guardians, Bad Boy or any Ally (Especially White Tiger, Kaluu or Gamora since they give you extra cards). If you get a "Welcome Aboard", you'll probably be able to play two allies. If Captain Marvel comes out, I wouldn't play her. Setup is more important. Although, if you do, you'll do 6 damage to the villain, and they'll be stunned. There are worse scenarios. :)

  • Use What Could Go Wrong? as soon as you get Star-Lord's Helmet, and keep using it to bring out more allies. Once Knowhere is out, you're gonna have a good bit of card draw.

  • Use Teamwork mostly to thwart, and to keep low health allies on the board to block when needed.

  • I hardly ever use my Element Gun except for Sliding Shot. With Enhanced Reflexes, you'll have that extra resource to trigger Element Gun if you want. The piercing is needed often.

  • Remember that the Rapid Response is also fantastic for re-setting Hawkeye's minion eating response. If Captain Marvel doesn't come up, you'll still be fine.

Conclusion:

I feel kinda silly for taking so long to figure out that Star-Lord would make this Leadership deck hum. He's the best hero for Leadership by far. Certainly, if you're looking to exploit something, he's your guy. Let me know what you think!

Beat Expert Ebony Maw, Expert Taskmaster and Thanos with this deck today despite horrible card draw and surge parties. This deck really overcomes tough situations and tons of encounter cards.
