4-Turn Ronan KO!!
Remember the days when all a deck needed was a new combo, determined playtesting, and a youthful outlook on the world? Remember back in 2020, scrolling the database and thinking "hey, that Brian-V guy really finds new uses for these cards", "hey, dr00 is bust-a-gut funny", and also, "is it doctor oo, or drew, or dr double zero?" Remember when you posted a little Hellcat loop that hadn't been noticed yet?
But now for a deck to be noticed, you need a 5-digit reputation score and cold, hard, digital gameplay. We are in the post-Apocalyptic future of the Marvelcdb. If your deck hasn't beaten Ronan on the first try, it might as well be garbage. What's a plucky little upstart deck to do? Marvel Champions isn't about Marvel superheroes fighting supervillains, it's about getting validation about your opinions and promoting your brand! Earth-616? We are in The Boys universe.
"Mom, someone let grandpa out of the nursing home again! Grandpa, 2020 was like 6 waves ago, basically forever! Now, we only look at Marvel Champions decks on TikTok!"
Decks used to be about the game man, the game! It's all just cred now, ponyboy. Sigh...takes drag on candied cigarette
WELL THAT'S FINE BECAUSE THIS DECK HAS CRED!
I did 1000 damage in a 4-player game with this deck!*
*It was actually 200 damage, but I'm rounding up to a number that I think will make you click. Check bait noobz
Fully acknowledging I'm part of the problem, here is some
GAMEPLAY LINK
Unlike most Sidekick decks where the combo is obvious from the signature ally's big stats and the hero's access to readies, this one is pretty subtle. And by subtle, I mean it's like when the cashier at Starbucks swings around the iPad and the only tip options are 25%, 35%, and 1000 DAMAGE!!
Here's the breakdown, before I have a breakdown:
Sam Alexander with a 7-card hand size from Symbiote Suit and +1 ATK from Combat Specialist, and Ms. Marvel with Sidekick and Team Training. Nova has a measly 3 ATK and Ms. Marvel only 1 ATK. Surely, Side-by-Side is not worth it here....but here's the thing, every single time you play Side-by-Side, it only costs 1ER!
- Optionally spend Supernova Helmet (possibly Unleash Nova Force)
- Basic ATK with Nova and Ms. Marvel
- Use Supernova Helmet and Clarity of Purpose to play. Side-by-Side, readying both and boosting their stats by 1
- Ms. Marvel exhausts to bounce Side-by-Side to hand
- Nova makes a basic ATK for 4, readying Supernova Helmet
- Do this until Ms. Marvel is at 1hp, then every subsequent Side-by-Side bounce, heal her and then use her to bounce it back
- When you run out of resources for Side-by-Side, boost their stats one more time, then make one final basic ATK with both
Since 2/3 of the ER of Side-by-Side are provided by Supernova Helmet and Ms. Marvel, every single other card and resource we have becomes a Side-by-Side. If we start in alter-ego with a 9 hand size (with 2 Connection to the Worldminds) and Side-by-Side under Black Panther, that is 10 uses of Side-by-Side! Add in cards drawn from Combat Specialist and Mission Leader and that is 2 more uses. If you played Unleash Nova Force, every single time you defeat something, you will draw what is essentially another copy of Side-by-Side!
Ms. Marvel has the hp to use the stat-boost option of Side-by-Side 5 times before needing to switch to heals (because we are definitely drawing Innovation at some point in this sequence). This turns Nova into a 6 THW, 8 ATK monster, with Ms. Marvel as a 6/6.
Starting at 3 and then adding 4+5+6+7+8 for each Side-by-Side ready, we're already at 33. Turning the rest of our resources into readies (without further stat boosts), we'll swing for another 8 times X damage, where X is how many cards you have in hand. If Nova manages to Unleash the Nova Force, he turns into a whirlwind of death, clearing the entire board for free, since nothing is standing up to a 6/8 cyclone. The ready from UNF turns into another 8 damage before turning the card drawn into another Side-by-Side. Finally, when the gas runs out, one last Side-by-Side played as a stat boost, but instead of bouncing it back to hand, use Ms. Marvel's last hp for a basic attack of 7, accompanying Nova's 9.
Nova Sidekick is a fusion between the Tasmanian Devil and a pinball machine. As soon as Ms. Marvel+Sidekick are in play, Unleash Nova Force+Side-by-Side will instantly end the game.
- Lots of here to guarantee a turn 1 Supernova Helmet. At 7-8 resources a turn, set up becomes blisteringly fast
- Call for Backup is teed up to grab Ms. Marvel the moment Sidekick enters our hand
- Champions Mobile Bunker filters for the setup or to get Unleash Nova Force and Side-by-Side in hand at the same time!
- "Go for Champions!" could perceivably be played on the combo turn to not have to worry about Ms. Marvel's health, but it still limits the amount of Side-by-Side's we can play by eating too many resources. It is better in the early game to get a safe build turn
- Suit Up grabs Sidekick or Clarity of Purpose. Getting an ally to match a second The Power of Leadership is a play straight out of Wild Tutor!
- Specialized Training on an Unleash Nova Force can lead to multiple drawn cards. Clear the PSS, get Combat Specialist, draw 1 and ready with UNF, spend Supernova Helmet, then make a basic attack to draw 1 from Combat Specialist while re-readying Supernova Helmet and potentially drawing from Unleash Nova Force again!

Apr 11, 2024Hello it is me, a different person than journeyman2. I liked this deck so much I have engaged with all of its metrics by commenting liking and favoriting |
Apr 11, 2024Ah, thank you so much journeyman3! Your engagement is nourishing. |
Apr 11, 2024I swore I was logged into alt7. Having a minor identity crisis over here. |
Apr 11, 2024tjjj3 here, it says this deck is beginner but I don't get it. Can you explain how it works? |
Apr 11, 2024hello this is alt6! It's funny ... my friend and I were theory crafting a deck like this just last night. We thought of running R&D Facility to provide a source of +ATK/+TWT that could be setup in advance of the wombo-combo turn, but looking at your version, it might be too slow. I also noticed you are not running all of the usual +draw allies (Nick Fury, White Tiger, Maria Hill). At a minimum, wouldn't Maria Hill be a better Ironheart or does the "Champion" tag matter that much? |

Apr 11, 2024I really appreciate the write up and perspective on this. I do wish (and this includes me) that more upstart or low rep deck builders were recognized for cool/fun/interesting (though not perfect) decks. Also, Nova is my favorite hero to date so it already makes this deck a top tier deck :) |

Other decks just seem completely untested before posting, or functional, but un-interesting, not unique, or not showing a new idea. Which are things I think the private deck function is way more suited for. Except for the Every Hero Every Aspect series, my personal bar to move a deck from private->public is very high, and I attribute any engagement to upholding that standard. |
Apr 11, 2024Didn't read, great deck |
Apr 11, 2024Interesting use of "theme" This is hilarious. |

Oh $#!^, I’m part of the problem! But seriously, it is a great callout because while some published decks are well tested. I’ve definitely been guilty of barely testing a deck to get it out there without any hook to why it might be novel or beneficial for the community to see. I particularly love how you view/determine what is great for private record vs good for public consumption. Thanks for sharing that and this deck! |
Apr 11, 2024Hey! You're not supposed to come in here and one up my Sidekick deck! ;) this is awesome, I'm finally gonna play Nova hehe |
Apr 12, 2024what are we some kinda clickbait squad?? |
Apr 12, 2024What about Lead From the Front? Have you considered it? Or maybe Teamwork? Those are blue cards, too. |
Apr 12, 2024Super cool combo and awesome video with dr00 and vjakson showing off just how strong it is! |
Apr 12, 2024I'll catch up on all these alt comments today hopefully, in the meantime, I have a follow-up video: |
Apr 12, 2024There’s no greater compliment on marvelcdb than being called “journeyman2’s alt account.” |
Apr 12, 2024Clickbait Nova smashes the villain as hard as I smash that Subscribe button and notification bell! Great deck and videos. I especially liked how you used a voice changer to make it seem like dr00 and Brian-V were different people. |
Apr 13, 2024Candy cigarettes are for kids. I've got the good stuff. A bubble gum cigar that we cut open and put pixie sticks in. Candy blunts. |
Apr 13, 2024Really solid deck. I just did 63 damage in a turn to finish a game (plus 10 thwart) with 10 cards still in hand to keep it going. Apparently, Apocalypse had enough and surrendered. |
Apr 13, 2024Idk. I don’t think this works. I need to see it first hand to believe it. ;P Kidding aside, it’s awesome to watch this thing go off! If anyone is looking for some Ms Marvel shenanigans. Can’t do better than this. |
Apr 14, 2024In a four player game against expert Kang tonight, a friend used your deck and we each had leadership sidekick strategies going. Nova was the clear MVP. Once Kang flipped to stage III, my X-23 did 23 damage and then Nova hit the villain for 77 in a single round plus removing all of the minions in play. Very impressive. |

Apr 14, 2024Your Chaotic Good energy is impressive. |
Apr 14, 2024Finished a multiplayer game versus Juggernaut with a slightly different version of the deck that used Build Support to put IPAC into play. (2 extra card draw for +1 encounter cards is a steal!)

Apr 16, 2024Truly, the high visibility move would be to reply to each commenter with a new comment to artificially increase my comment count with my own words. But I think the moral of the story is, the real friends are the alt accounts we made along the way. Thanks for clicking! I'm sure my marvelcdb royalties will show up any day now... |
Apr 17, 2024Love this deck idea! I have a question though - how does Mission Leader make it onto the table? It requires that Nova/Sam Alexander have the "Soldier" trait, and I don't see a way to add that to him...what am I missing? |

Apr 18, 2024D'oh! This game is all about the words, isn't it? ;) Thanks for setting me straight! |

Jul 25, 2024I guess Go ahead champions! You take it because of the special resource it gives, in addition to if it were necessary to shield Nova and Ms. Marvel once in the entire game, because the effect of the card, in addition to being erroneous and if only used, is removed from the game (not is discarded), prevents Ms. Marvel from recovering cards since the cost to do so is to do 1 damage and the effect of Go ahead champions! prevents any champion from being hurt, it's just a question for clarification, thanks in advance |
Oct 10, 2024This deck is really scary. It might be the best deck in the game. While it is not strictly an unlimited combo, for most practical purposes this will end the game. So it has the best possible late game engine, which is usually balanced by needing to build out and having trouble reacting to early threats. But half the combo is tutorable and the other half can easily be drawn into, quite fast even and most of it is hand/event based, so it's not even particularly resource draining to setup within the first deck cycle. Also, most of the pieces are good plays even without the combo, so dealing with threats early is covered as well. And even if you manage to not beat the game instantly, you just cleared the ENTIRE board and healed up considerably at the same time, giving you enough time to set up the combo again, which could be 1-2 turns away due to being able to tutor from discard with Suit Up. I think leadership's survivability and draw/tutoring makes this one of the best decks in the game. So many people talk about the obvious broken characters from a pure "value gain" perspective, such as Strange / Ham / etc. while this is just a pretty optimized combo deck in a game where the opponent cannot really answer that in any targeted way. :D I had a lot of fun pairing it up with Nightcrawler in 2P. As Kurt can defend for both players early and reliably, Sam has all the time in the world to assemble his combos while clearing the most pressing concerns with efficient removal. Thanks for the list! |
Nov 13, 2024This is my favorite write up now. I’m late to the game, but glad I’m in it. If toxic is seeing, then speaking up; I’m radioactive material. With respect. The deck is secondary to the battle rap. Biggie called. He says he’s live and well. Wants you to suit up. Imposters lurk. What Why Farce |
All the jokes!
