Goal to build a deck that features the current spotlit card: Tac Team

Tac Team on the surface is a slow attack event. 4 effective resources (3 cost) for 6 total damage (1.5 damage/effective resource). There are few events in the game this efficient, without a trade off. The only trade for this, the damage is over 3 turns. What makes Tac Team stand above all of those events though,

  • You can use Tac Team in Alter-Ego.
  • Tac Team isn't an Attack, so it also gets around Stun.
  • You don't lose all of the damage to a Tough status.

The most universal perk though, the Alter-Ego damage. I wanted a hero who could thrive in Alter-Ego to take full advantage of that. I had a few options in mind: Nebula, Captain Marvel, Gambit, & Black Widow. If I'm going to stay in Alter-Ego though, I want some Confuse. This left Gambit & Black Widow, who can both confuse while they are in Alter-Ego. I chose Black Widow for a few reasons:

  • Gambit charge counters don't work on Tac Team.
  • Tac Team is SHIELD traited and it fit with the eventual SHIELD theme.

GAME PLAN:

Confuse

In addition to Covert Ops, both Professor X and Psylocke add 2 (3 since Psylocke confuses twice) more confuse to the deck. That's a total of 5 confuses per deck pass. At 40 cards, drawing 6+ a turn, that gives you only 1-2 turns per of the Villain being able the Scheme outside of Encounter cards. The Villain could potentially be Confuse locked once you've played things like Safe House #29, Helicarrier, Sky-Destroyer, Black Widow's Gauntlet, and permanent cards.

SHIELD

You know what else can do damage in Alter-Ego, Sky-Destroyer. Tac Team happens to be SHIELD traited, giving you more damage in Alter-Ego. With running Sky-Destroyer, comes the basic SHIELD cards to help trigger it more. Helicarrier, Agent 13, Mockingbird, Nick Fury, War Machine are all cost effective obvious cards to add in a SHIELD deck. Dum Dum Dugan is not as obvious given his high cost. The advantage of Dum Dum Dugan though, is it gives us something to do with Natasha Romanoff by exhausting to his ability.

Resources

This deck having numerous 3+ cost cards in both basic and aggression makes the The Power of Aggression & The Power in All of Us not as good as we'd hope. However, we have a perfectly good Natasha Romanoff sitting having nothing to do for most of the game. Well Meditation helps by both acting as 3 resources and giving us something to do with Natasha Romanoff.

Allies

These allies haven't been mentioned yet because they are in for just being generally good at effective costs. Any of these could be swapped out in different scenarios.

  • Brawn is efficient when he has something to attack.
  • Spider-Girl is great to deal damage in Alter-Ego and might help with a pesky Minion.
  • Throg is great to deal damage in Alter-Ego and could be better if a Minion appears.
  • Sunfire lets you get rid of potentially problematic attachments without having to go to Hero.
  • First Aid while not an ally is intended for allies you want to keep around for their stats or abilities like Agent 13, Winter Soldier, Dum Dum Dugan, & War Machine.

ALTERNATE CONSIDERATIONS:

Hall of Heroes - If Looking for Trouble could be played in Alter-Ego, this would be the direction of the deck. Angela is a consideration to add to the deck with Hall of Heroes if the scenario is minion heavy.

Government Liaison - If this wasn't a Hero Action, it would be an auto-include. However we are trying to stay in Alter-Ego and this doesn't work with that.

Assess the Situation - Don't have the room with a full SHIELD package.

Quincarrier - While I could cheat it in with Build Support, it requires us to go to Hero in order to play it.

Avengers Mansion - would be good but the 4 cost doesn't sync with Meditation. I could see this as an addition.

The Power in All of Us - I could see a version of this deck that cuts all of the Aggression allies except Psylocke. In this version I'd have 2 of these, Avengers Mansion and Quincarrier. However I feel like it would be too resource heavy and hungry for actual cards to play.

This looks amazing! I haven't played Black Widow yet because I've never been able to build a good "stay in alter" deck. I'm going to try this one for sure, and might add Avengers Mansion as a 41.

Do you ever flip up to Hero just to trigger a Preparation (or multiples) so you can grab it back in alter with Safe House #29? I'm thinking with the Villain stunned (Mockingbird) and you have Grappling Hook and both Widow's Bite in play it would be "safe" to sneak up and play a Quincarrier. Then you'd get some value in alter by replaying those preps. (Just a thought, I've already said I'm no good at building a "stay in alter" deck LOL)

@SoloMarvelChampion Flipping to Hero is almost always going to happen at some point based on when the situation feels advantageous. I probably should have mentioned something about that in the run down.

With Safe House #29, I'll intentionally not play out all of the Preparation cards to keep it active as a resource generator.

Specific to Quincarrier, I view Quincarrier as an early game build play. If I'm already built out enough to want to go into Hero form, I probably already have the resources I need to function. Of a lesser note, not being able to play it off of Meditation really hurts wanting to play this card.

Avengers Mansion is probably the best of my alternate considerations. If only Build Support worked with it. I'd swap it with one of the 2 cost Aggression allies if I wanted to fit it in, as they are situational to the encounter you are facing.
