Want to do up to 14 combined points of damage / thwart with a two cost card? As long as you're playing solo, you can!

Hulkling has 3 traits (4 with Winged Shape in play), which set me on the quest of this deck. Trait-maxing.

This deck is strongest in solo since Strength in Diversity becomes more expensive with higher player count, traits are likely to be redundant when more characters are added, and we already cover a wide swath of them. Leadership Training allows you to shuffle Strength in Diversity back into your deck. Impersonation gives you extra flips to alter that don't consume your free flip per round so it's easier to use Leadership Training's alter-ego action.

A quick breakdown of the sources of traits in this deck:

Hulkling: Avenger, Kree, & Skrull

Winged Shape: Aerial

Atlas Bear: Posse & Wakanda

Fantomex + Children of the Atom: Psionic, X-Factor, X-Force, & X-Men

Slingshot: S.H.I.E.L.D. & Spy

Vivian: Aerial, Android, & Champion

Wiccan: Avenger & Mystic

Most of the allies in this deck were chosen for staying on the board while still providing value.

Atlas Bear provides a scry that can help you plan your hand when using the card draw from Imitation Shape, which usually has the opportunity cost of spending an event and it's resources before finding out what your hand will look like. If in need you get a card draw off of damaging her, though be wary of encounter sets that deal 1 damage to all characters you control.

Fantomex is meant to be gotten down to whatever health you're comfortable leaving him at, and to continue taking advantage of E.V.A every round.

Slingshot can get repeated use by paying a from Alien Physiology, Clarity of Purpose, or Quincarrier at the cost of losing one of your card draws at the start of the villain phase when she returns to your hand. Between those three resource generators, Helicarrier, the card draw from the Specialized Training upgrade of your choice (preferably Front Line Specialist), & Teddy Altman's ability to tutor his double resource shapeshifter upgrades to hand makes you rich enough to afford it.

Vivian was added for her traits (including aerial if you don't feel like staying in Winged Shape) and doesn't provide an effect longer than a round. However blanking out a textbox is a good effect to have in a variety of situations and can be worth recurring with Make the Call & Med Lab. Doc7 pointed out an update in Mutant Genesis that permanent cards can only be blanked out by cards from their own set, so the non-permanent restriction on targets now applies to all three of types of cards. No longer can Vivian blank out the Infinity Gauntlet.

Wiccan comes with the hero and boasts one unique trait (mystic) & one redundant one (Avenger). This is only a 1 or 2 net trait loss if you have him out instead of Vivian depending on if you're in Winged Shape. His ability to tutor an identity event to your hand is good, including getting Shapeshifter which gets you a double resource shapeshifter upgrade. This effect only works when he is played from hand so Make the Call won't trigger it, but Med Lab does since it simulates playing from hand.

Med Lab is here to get more basic actions out of allies before being in alter for part of the next turn to recur them and repeats Vivian and Wiccan’s put into play effects. With Impersonation it's once again easier to trigger an alter-ego action like Med Lab. Since we have one more ally than we can have out at once with The Triskelion, this is also good for storing someone if the board is full.

Make the Call is here in case you ever have to use an ally as a resource or defender. Since we only care about having all the allies out of our small pool in play, Make the Call is important for getting to that board state and allowing them to still defend when possible.

Down Time, Endurance, & Specialized Training (for Front Line Specialist) are here to help with your health pool since between being disincentivized from defending with allies and Clarity of Purpose, health is a resource to be mindful of.

I think it's great that the game is branching out to heroes and allies that aren't just the ones that had blockbusters made about them. Most of my Marvel knowledge is from the animated series I grew up with and a handful of comics. I actually don't know any of the lore of Hulkling or the allies in this deck, so anyone who does please share some of your favorite things about them! Maybe do a fun thought exercise like ranking them by how likely they would be to play Marvel Champions if it existed in their world, what their stats would be in another game system, or characters from other properties they share a vibe with!

Additional prompts:

  1. What D&D class are they and which would they like to be?
  2. Who gets the last slice of pizza?
  3. Who has the worst sleep schedule?

Can you explain how Vivian can blank I.G. again? You mentioned that she can blank permanent cards as long as they are not side schemes, but I do not see that clarification under Permanent on page 31 of RRG 1.7.

The answer to how Vivian can blank Infinity Gauntlet (an attachment) is all in her card and not on the definition of permanent.

She reads "Hero Response: After Vivian enters play, choose an attachment, non-Elite minion, or non-permanent side scheme. Until the end of the round, treat that card's printed text box as if it were blank (except for Traits)."

Any attachment and any non-Elite minion are fair game, while non-permanent is only a restriction on targeting side schemes. I was just highlighting that because I thought it'd be an easy misread to apply the non-permanent restriction to all three options in the list.

Oddly enough this means Vivian could blank a permanent non-Elite minion if such a card is ever released, which would be an interesting encounter set to be sure.

Vivian says that, but the rules say that a Permanent card cannot be blanked except by a card in its set. That was updated in Mutant genesis and “nerfed” Vivian

Darn, I was unaware of the nerf. I'll update the writeup.
