ATTACK
DRAW
READY
REPEAT
This deck follows the usual Drax plan of having the villain smack you and then smacking them back. Stack ATK, HP, and ready effects. Never leave hero form unless you are about to die.
While Drax is normally resource limited due to his small hand, this deck goes all-in on mitigating that weakness by:
- Increasing HP to thus survive more villain attacks and get more draw with the hero effect.
- Providing direct means of accruing value through draw and hand-size-increase effects.
For someone who is otherwise an offensive character, Drax has the rare ability to get high-magnitude, single-target thwarts thanks to Intimidation. This means Drax can run Player Side Schemes without sacrificing too much to thwart them. The new Specialized Training from X-23 can give Drax either more attack or more HP, along with the benefit of an additional card draw per round after attacking or taking damage, respectively. Woo!
This deck is very fun. It makes Drax feel like a combo character, attacking and drawing 5+ times a turn, with 50+ damage phases not being uncommon.
==============
The general gameplan is as follows.
GET STRONG
Drax's Knife + Symbiote Suit + Vengeance = 6 ATK
GET BIG
Symbiote Suit + Endurance + Front Line Specialist = 31 HP!
ESTABLISH A MOTIVE
The Villain Attacks you: "Fight Me, Coward!", Taunt, Get Behind Me!, Villain phase.
Draw a card any time the above happens after max vengeance counters.
PURSUE VENGEANCE
Leading Blow, What Doesn't Kill Me, Limitless Stamina, C.I.T.T.
Attack and ready. Draw a card any time any of the above happens with DWI Theet Mastery
DON'T DIE
Parry and Shake it Off offer some resilience. Mantis and The Night Nurse will keep you alive. Keep Mantis alive with Med Team
==============
Priorities
DWI Theet Mastery is most critical. Next is Drax's Knife. Use Super Power Training to pull either of these. Symbiote Suit finishes off the core of key cards. After that, look for Mantis and healing effects as needed.
Drax's Other Knife is a most games.
Other Considerations
Anticipated Attack from X-23 seems great for Drax. For 3 resources this is basically a free activation of the hero ability, however, this card is expensive compared to Drax's other events and requires that a side scheme be in the victory display. Since this is a deck that is looking to win quickly, you would probably not benefit from this effect until turn 3. Shake it Off gets a tough status more efficiently.
Dauntless might be interesting for how much the villain will be attacking, but Drax's Other Knife does the same but better and retaliate 2 is probably overkill in all but the swarm-iest encounters.
Double Resource Cards - Most cards in this deck cost less than 2.
This looks awesome! Thanks for the write up. I really like the idea of Drax going out with just mantis looking for a fight. I used to build him out this way also but haven't played him in so long. I’m getting my X-23 pack next week sometime I can’t wait to try out your list.
