Like many of us, I tried Hawkeye a few times and put him back in the box. After the fun of my Pietro's Pit Crew deck focused on readying and card draw, who else could benefit from the same deck?
Hawkeye!
The "Point" of the Deck
Clint is a bit of a glass cannon with 9 HP and fixed game play. He needs a team that can carry Hawkeye's Quiver while he takes the glory. This deck is about Tactical Overdraw. We’re using the Avengers as a glorified battery pack to keep Hawkeye’s hand full and his bow string taut.
The Support Staff (The Engine)
The goal here is to flood the board with cheap allies who are more useful standing around handing Hawkeye arrows than actually fighting.
- The Benchwarmers: Drop low-cost Avengers like Stinger (doesn't count toward ally limit), Ant-Man (pay 1 for him), and Blade (doesn't activate).
- The Logistics: Get The Triskelion and Avengers Tower out early. This increases your "employee capacity," allowing you to exhaust a massive board of allies to draw up to 6 cards, getting to 11 cards in hand with Strength In Numbers. Like all Hawkeye decks, mulligan hard for Hawkeye's Quiver.
- The Payoff: Once your hand is overflowing with every Trick Arrow in the book, use Earth's Mightiest Heroes to exhaust a "volunteer" (like Kaluu or Wonder Man to ready Hawkeye. This lets him use his basic activation of 3 ATK (surprisingly good stat for Hawkeye) and fire off a barrage of arrows in a single turn.
Calling the Shots (The Strategy)
- Aggressive Recruitment: Use Call for Aid to aggressively mill your deck. We aren't just looking for allies; we’re thinning the deck so that every draw is a high-impact Arrow or a game-changing Event.
- Keep Them Working: Use Rapid Response to keep Mockingbird on a loop to protect you, or Squirrel Girl and Kaluu for their enter play abilities.
- The Payday: Strength In Numbers is your MVP here. Once your board is full of allies who are too busy "helping" to actually take consequential damage, you'll draw up to 6 cards gaining more arrows. Though Band Together and The Power of Leadership aren't really needed for this low economy deck, they easily for everything.
The "Big Finish" (The Closing Act)
Once your board is set...
... and your hand is sculpted, pivot into a massive Avengers Assemble! turn. Use your allies to thwart or chip away at the villain, then use Earth's Mightiest Heroes to ready Hawkeye for one final, perfectly aimed shot.
Summary: This deck turns Hawkeye from a guy with a bow into a tactical commander who never runs out of ammo.
