"Just because something works doesn’t mean it can’t be improved"

I love the efficiency of Honed Technique. So, let's squeeze a little more out of it with an already efficient Fusillade. Using these Wakandan firearms nets you 7 damage for 3 effective resources!

So how do we get there?

  1. During setup, grab Panther Claws. If you are up against a minion-heavy scenario, you could start with Energy Daggers instead. Congratulations! You now have a weapon to fire away with Fusillade. But first, let's work on our aim.

  2. Next, deploy Honed Technique using your access to 24 resources. Vibranium and The Power of Aggression are clutch to hit the initial requirement. We only run 1 copy though, because Shuri can help you search for it.

  3. Lastly, finish setting up your board, depending on the length of the game, and then go to town! Playing the rest of your Black Panther upgrades will boost Wakanda Forever!. We also have access to Enhanced Awareness to hit more Honed Technique kickers and not overpay for Wakanda Forever!. We can use Clobber and Melee for efficient damage output where ever needed, and Into the Fray for any beefy minions with the ability to control threat the main scheme's threat.

I know some folks don't like going over 40 cards just for Assess the Situation, but I enjoy the flexibility it brings to this deck for several reasons. First, having easier access to mental resources is helpful. Second, it's nice to have some larger turns with so many available resources. If you ever find yourself about to flip down to Alter-Ego, you can assess and then use The Golden City at the beginning of your next turn before flipping back up to fire away at the villain with additional cards (and options) in hand. At the very least, it can be useful when you need a single resource for Wakanda Forever!

I hope you enjoy Black Panther - Honed Tec-9s!

Peace!

Man!! Shuri letting you get Honed Technique is awesome! Such a great, put together deck!.

This deck looks great! I'm a big fan of Black Panther in aggression. Honed Technique has great synergy with Vibranium, and Assess the Situation is fantastic for helping you find Wakanda Forever! and as a mental for Honed Technique. Enhanced Awareness is also a great pick here. Really solid deck!

I've just playtested the deck and I love it. I really like how Black Panther can take profit of Honed Technique thanks to his Vibranium cards.

The only thing I'd change (and it's just a matter of personal taste) is to remove Enhanced Awareness, probably to add a few allies more to get more bodies to chumpblock. I'm not a big fan of "Enhanced" cards.

This is a fun decklist and I think this will encourage me to go back to Black Panther and give him a try again. Thanks for posting!

@andyr Thank you so much! She's really great. At the very least, if you get stuck in one of those long multi-player games where you have all of your permanent upgrades, you can target Enhanced Awareness instead.

@Daring Lime I appreciate it! It doesn't rush as well as with Full-Body Charge, but it's still very focused on building up and letting loose.

@wehehe I'm glad you loved playing it! That's awesome. Yeah, the Enhanced cards are a bit of personal taste. There is so much mental going on here, it's not absolutely necessary, so replacing them with some cheap allies is a good call, especially for solo or lower player counts. I've done it both ways and enjoy having the extra single resource generation on demand, at least for multiplayer.

I kept the ally count lower than most of my decks to focus more on Black Panther and what his upgrades can do. I heal enough through the Suit and do a lot of flipping once the Golden City hits the table to where I don't need as many blockers. But perhaps with more testing, I might find another ally or two to be useful, maybe Ironheart to stay on target with metal resources, theme, and being able to draw into more useful events. It's never a bad thing to have more useful allies!

Thank you all for such kind words! This was my second deck posted here on marvelcdb...there's no turning back now! I'm excited to ramp up for the new wave of heroes & villains and prepare for Con of Heroes '25!

Nice deck, can't wait to try it. I'm a big fan of trying the original characters with mutant wave cards. Can't wait to see how well T'Challa does after April!

@ZaneBrick Thank you! The cohesive design is one of my favorite things about this game. No hero has ever been obsolete and they do a pretty good job of making them thematic and breathing life into old heroes or cards when they release new ones. I'm also looking forward to Shuri's release!

Wow, what a good idea for a deck! Honed technique and Fusillade are a great combo that were hiding underneath my nose for a while. Is this a deck that struggles at all with thwarting? I mean, there's probably no need with how much damage comes from Panther Claws, Honed technique and fusillade

Jan 19, 2025 D.M.Tip · 774

@fluffyseaotter Thank you! Yes, the threat control is a little lacking compared to some decks. That said, the included allies help with either high THW and access to Confuse. In my 2-3p testing, I would often use my basic activation to THW if my teammates couldn't control threat very well. Into the Fray is now slouch too if you can set it up against a low hp minion and Hone it, potentially thearting the main scheme for 9.

If you are going up against a high threat scenario like Magneto or Red Skull, you can swap a few cards to shore up this weakness. However, it's probably something easier done with other aspects.

amazing. absolutely love it. 1000000% agree that you just start with Claws every game and sometimes the Daggers, and that that's all you need to get rollin

Jan 21, 2025 D.M.Tip · 774

Thank you @dr00! Yeah, @Daring Lime had a great breakdown in his BP aggression rush deck how efficient the Claws are with a single Wakanda Forever!. Here, they pull double duty once you can Hone that Fusillade.

Jan 21, 2025 Xou · 74

It feels like a worse version of classic weapon build. Weapons gives you access to Fusillade and Mean Swing that are low cost high efficiency events, the opposite that you want with hone technique.

Jan 21, 2025 D.M.Tip · 774

@Xou That's an interesting take. I think a more weapons focused build with Mean Swing takes a slightly different approach and is a lot stronger in more of a solo rush-style deck, certainly. I've played decks like that where you can run out of weapon targets if you draw too many weapon-dependent cards in a single turn and it feels like a bad moment when that happens. They are pretty strong though.

I love a good Jarnbjorn deck too and Hand Cannon + Mean Swing have the right resource, while also allowing some flexibility of damage beyond your attacked target.

One of the things I particularly enjoy about this deck is that it is heavily event driven and doesn't depend your hero activation for damage. If you find yourself exhausted, whether from effects Klaw's Sonic Boom or Expert II's Slug It Out, you can still pump out some damage to help deal with minions or put pressure on the villain. The events are also an efficient use of BP's extra double resources where in the weapons style deck (at least the ones I've played) you tend to have to use them for chump blockers (which is totally fine) or Enhanced Physique to pay for the axe.

@Xou I have to say, after playing this deck, I love honed technique and how it’s not SOLELY focused on weapons. For HT to be efficient positive, it needs to generate 7 damage. HT will generate 6 damage from 1 melee. With Black Panther, you can generate these high damage events and multiple instances of them well. It’s a great twist on panther claws with more tools for various scenarios…at least from my perspective after playing this deck a lot recently.

@Chumpions Pod Thank you!

I'm gonna try it on true solo at Mutant Genesis cmpgn but I'm afraid it's very aggresive deck and may struggle with threat especially with Magento...

Feb 06, 2025 D.M.Tip · 774

@wojciech Thank you for the comment! I mention a response to a similar question a few comments up that if you are going against a scenario that requires a lot of THW, you can swap a few cards and essentially get the same feel of the deck. I usually try to build solid all around decks, but that's difficult if you are trying to cover both solo and multiplayer, because they are vastly different, and each aspect/hero has strengths and weaknesses. The likes of Magneto and Red Skull also require some special attention for certain decks to handle appropriately, like this one.

Here's what I would do against Mags: Swap out 3x Assess the Situation for Brawn, Ironheart, and Vivian. I'd also possibly start with Tactical Genius in play instead of the claws to really zero in on the threat removal early. It just slows the deck down a lot and turns your Fusillades into dead cards for a bit, but that should allow you to quickly clear those side schemes. Between your basic activation, the additional ally support, and Tactical Genius triggers from Wakanda Forever, you should have an easier time keeping threat under control.

Thanks for the suggestions.
