Welcome to the second deck of my Heroic Roulette Core Set challenge, where I tune decks for a specific scenario and try to win on heroic difficulty. You can find the first deck here:

Matchup:

Klaw is about as generic as a scenario can get. Understandable coming from the core set, but it is hard to find a specific hero with a better matchup against him than other heroes (unlike Ultron, who we'll get to next). So, I put together this Captain Marvel S.H.I.E.L.D. Justice deck, a deck I never got around to when the S.H.I.E.L.D. archetype released, that can use Agent 13 to ready Alpha Flight Station.

I swapped out the recommended Masters of Evil mod set for Crossfire's Crew to mix things up a bit. There's no particular synergy with Klaw, but it's reasonable flavor-wise. Klaw just swapped out one villainous crew for another.

Gameplan:

Pretty straight-forward as you'd expect from the Core Set. No big scenario gimmicks, just a mix of minions, side schemes, and villain activations. Captain Marvel can churn through her deck fast thanks to her Alter-Ego and Hero abilities plus Alpha Flight Station potentially twice a turn. Do whatever you need to clear minions and side schemes when revealed, and slip in the set-up cards when given the opportunity.

You'll note the lack of inclusion of other S.H.I.E.L.D archetype cards like Global Logistics and Homeland Intervention. It's not that I hate these cards, but the opportunity cost of playing them over Turn the Tide, Clear the Area, and other Justice staples seemed too high for me. If there was more potential for large threat numbers on side schemes, Invervention could be considered, but that's not the case for this scenario.

Game review: 1 win, 0 loss

This is another easy scenario that shows how far the power level of cards has come since the Core Set. Not having played the S.H.I.E.L.D. archetype too much, I was super impressed with Field Agent healing up Agent 13 to generate tons of value throughout the game. Also with so much card draw, Captain Marvel can really face any combination of encounter cards from the villain deck on a given turn, all the while tucking away resources for the big Energy Channel kill on the last turn.

Next time

The Heroic Roulette challenge really shows it merits against the next scenario, Ultron, where you do need to craft a specific gameplan against all the Ultron drones. I hope you will check it out to see how Black Panther Aggression takes it down!
