Strange Support

I enjoy Dr. Strange, but sometimes, I get tired of spamming the invocation deck without a care about my teammates or the board. This deck series uses Strange's strengths to have a support role on the table using each aspect.

Pump It Up

Every time I introduce Dr. Strange, I always say "Rarely play Magical Enhancements. It's his worst card." But is it really? (I mean...it is his worst card) Maybe we can make it useful.

This is a different kind of Dr. Strange because it doesn't focus around his invocation deck. It's a support deck with one goal. Pump up everyone around you.

Magic Steroids

This deck will get the highest impact when you play with someone who has a lot of readies or their own stat boosters. Every blue card is meant to bump up a player's stats whether its their hero or their allies (or both). This means you'll only use your invocation deck as the board needs, but otherwise, you'll be getting your cards down that'll bump up others.

R&D Facility can target anyone with +1s, and you can have all three out. Leadership Skill can bump any ally, but you can only have 1 out at a time. This means that at the middle of the game, you can give a hero Magical Enhancements and one counter from each R&D Facility for +4 ATK/+4 THW/+1 DEF. Add Morale Boost and a Lead from the Front to make it a +6 ATK/+6 THW/+2 DEF. The +2 ATK/THW/DEF is until the end of the round.

Magical Allies

The allies are centered around helping Strange problem solve and helping table economy. Use Kaluu to find a Lead from the Front when a player is ready to wreck shop. Have Maria Hill draw everyone a card. Play Black Panther to get a Lead from the Front ready to go.

Cloud 9 is an interchangeable ally depending on who the other heroes are. Here is a guide for Cloud 9's slot:

  • Another deck centers on Aerial (Angel/Spectrum): keep Cloud 9
  • Another deck centers on Champions (Nova/Ironheart): use Patriot instead
  • Another deck centers on SHIELD: use Agent 13
  • Another deck centers on Guardians: use Major Victory
  • Another deck uses lots of X-Men: use Professor X

There are plenty of options for that Cloud 9 slot depending on who you are playing with.

FAQs

Q: Do you really play Magical Enhancements in this deck?

A: Yes. Yes, I do. Sometimes I even use it and R&D Facility on my self so I can thwart for 8 (because the Cloak of Levitation readies me). Cloud 9 can even make it 10 thwart for Strange.

Q: When do I play invocations?

A: When you need to or your hand doesn't have any set up cards. My recommendation is to sit on Winds of Watoomb till you get a Master of the Mystic Arts. Then when you really need card draw and resources, play that combo. Otherwise, only invoke when you need to. The same can be true for Seven Rings of Raggadorr. You can use Master of the Mystic Arts to give yourself and others toughs. Then use the invocation on the next hero phase to give out more toughs. Self care matters, ya know?

Q: What's my mulligan strategy?

A: Try to get 1 R&D Facility and 1 Strange upgrade out (especially The Eye of Agamotto) or The Sorcerer Supreme. This is an expensive deck, so economy needs to take priority to get the full impact.

Q: What other heroes have good pairings?

A: X-23 will crush it. Leadership Skill and Lead from the Front make Honey Badger a 3/3 and ready X-23. If you play with Professor X, you can ready Honey Badger to do it again and ready X-23 again. And if you used this deck, Honey Badger will have a Mission Training to add to her health.

I honestly don't play a lot of Strange or Leadership, but this looks awesome (especially as someone who likes to 2 hand). I'm a big fan of these dedicated support decks. Definitely going to give this one a spin.

@Greg I hope it goes well. I like Strange but really in multi-hero and table support situations. This one was fun to do with a Hulk/Leading Blow deck where Hulk was able to just keep readying and smashing the villain.
