This an Old Hero with New Cards deck. This is a deck which boosts Thor's defense stat, using The Best Offense... to use his defense stat for thwarting and attacking while using Army of One, Limitless Stamina, and Lady Sif to ready multiple times in the same turn. Excelsior pairs perfectly with God of Thunder, Ronin, and Change of Fortune to allow us to defeat minions and villains during the villain phase, triggering lots of card draw.
The ideal situation for us going into the villain phase is to have two minions out, one with 2 hit points or less. We defend when the villain attacks, use Excelsior to defeat one of the minions, drawing two cards and then use Stand Alone to ready when the next minion attacks us. Defender of the Nine Realms and "Come Get Me, Bub!" allow us to pull minions during the player phase, triggering additional card draw.
Deft Focus helps pay for Lightning Strike, Hammer Throw and Limitless Stamina.
The major downside to this deck in solo (and why there are 45 cards instead of 40) is that Thor is terrible at thwarting and if you build a Ronin deck where he usually doesn't have allies, he can't handle the threat. For these reasons, I included Professor X and two copies of Ready for a Fight to allow Thor to flip down and recover when he needs to. There are also 3 copies of Hard to Ignore so that once our defense is built up, we can start removing threat from the main scheme after defending.
If you are playing in multiplayer and someone else is playing a deck that does a lot of thwarting, I would ditch the 6 aforementioned cards in favor of Dr. Sinclair or Hidden Base to bring this down to 40 cards.
This is not the most powerful deck. I have been successful against Klaw, Ultron and The Wrecking Crew. But this deck is super fun. You have the potential for an 11 card hand with if you pull a minion in the player phase, get one in the villain phase and defeat a minion in the villain phase. The fun part is deciding when to mill the deck and pull minions in the player phase and when to not pull them, especially against villains like Ultron which don't have many minions in the deck. Each time I play this, I end up milling through the villain deck twice before the end.
