Something New!

I was wracking my brain to think of an idea for a deck. Something I hadn't seen done before, like a new card combo or a synergy I hadn't seen used in a deck, when I came up with an idea: make a purposely bad deck. Not one filled with trait-locked cards the hero can never play or with all the worst cards just thrown together, but cards that CAN be played, just maybe with a few extra hoops to jump through. That's not to say there aren't any bad cards here, though. I picked Wasp for this build because she is neither a Web-Warrior nor an X-Men. Also she only has one Superpower card. More on that later.

Wasp?! A Web-Warrior?

Would you like to play Spider-Ham? Yeah, me neither. But you CAN play him in this Wasp deck, even though he is locked behind the Web-Warrior trait. To do so you will need to control another Web-Warrior. For that purpose I have included one other Web-Warrior: Lady Spider. A 4 cost ally whose ability will help remove threat. But wait, her ability can only be used if you control another Web-Warrior, and if you remember, Spider-Ham is the only other Web-Warrior in the deck. There's a little synergy circle there that feels bad and is bad.

Diplomacy of the Gunboat Variety

I have included another ally for you, this one with a built in Tough status! Not quite an auto include when it comes to X-Men decks, but a good ally none the less, and that is Colossus! Let me tell you, it does not feel great to play Colossus if you don't have the X-Men trait... and Wasp does not have that. But I didn't just throw him in all willy nilly. He is included to be able to team up with Deathlok, an X-Force traited ally, whose ability let's you attach an upgrade to him. Unfortunately, there aren't any included in this deck. So, in order to play the included 3 copies of Gunboat Diplomacy, you will first need to have these two 4 cost allies on the table. Storm is also available to pair up with Deathlok, but is a little pricey at 5 cost.

Problem? Yo, I'll Solve it

Another, easier combo to pull off is to play Martinex, a Guardian ally with a similar discount as Colossus. One less resource to play him if you have a certain trait. Of course, Wasp does not have this specific trait. He is included to be able to play the 3 included copies of Problem Solvers, a 4 cost Alliance card that let's you exhaust an Avenger (Wasp) and a Guardian (Martinex)

Classic Ally You Say?

Well how about a classic ally?! Okay, here's Monica Chang but with no copies of Surveillance Team, she can be a bit of a let down. But there is a synergy here, I promise. You will be provided with one (1) whole copy of Homeland Intervention and 1 Global Logistics Hopefully you draw them while Monica is on the table, because she is the only target for them.

No Respect at All

White Fox is also around, but you will most likely need to do something no self respecting person has ever done: pay her resource cost.

So Deft. So Focus

Moving on from allies, I have provided 3 copies of Deft Focus, so you are more likely to draw into it. Deft Focus is a great card when your hero has a lot is Superpower traited cards. And Wasp has, wait for it... One Superpower card (2 copies of Rapid Growth), so it WILL come in handy.

Build, but no Support

There are 3 copies of Predictable Ploy in the deck, but in order to pay them, you will need a Side Scheme in the Victory Display. For this reason I have included Build Support, a Player Side Scheme that, when defeated, allows each player to search for, and put into play a Support card. Unfortunately, there are Zero (0) support cards in this deck.

Scary Tactics

The 3 included copies of Scare Tactic will come in handy when you combo with Upside the Head, although there is only one copy of that card in here, and that's the only Confuse status available to Wasp in this deck. But you could always slap it on and hit the Villain with Scare Tactic multiple times.

Mighty Heroics

Earth's Mightiest Heroes will come in handy when in combination with your signature ally Ant-Man. A nice combo, but situational as there's only one copy of Earth's Mightiest Heroes included.

But Wait! There's More

Beyond that, I have included one copy of a few more situational cards that might work and might not. Brains Over Brawn, Emergency, Foiled!, Hit and Run, Great Responsibility and Living Tribunal are all included if you want to use them. Try this deck of you want a challenge! There are some work-arounds here. When played in multiplayer, Build Support isn't a total whiff, and you can use your Alter-Ego action to shuffle in some cards with Resources (Lady Spider, Monica Chang, Upside the Head, Scare Tactic) to make some combos easier to hit.

I am in favor of deck creativity in any form. Kudos for trying something new!

@boomguy thanks for checking it out! I put in some headlines to make the wall of text easier to read. You and all the other deck builders come up with such unique and well written stuff I just wanted to do something fun and different.

@Ballin_Shane I’m hardly one of “them”…and I’m here for all the decks, no matter what

This cracked me up!! My favorite part of the write up was “Build, but No Support.” It was a fun read! I’ll play this later today and see if I can actually get a situational combo to work. Challenge accepted on Brains over Brawn :p
