Thematic deck for one of my favorite heroes in the game, Venom!
The idea of the deck is to continually play allies, use their stats and then "feed the symbiote" either through go down swinging or Noble Sacrifice. And no Sacrificial deck would be complete without marvel champions favorite sacrifice, Nick Fury.
We're still going to do Venom things which means getting our gun-grades out. Superpower Training helps get these online faster.
Multi-Gun is the most important given its versatility.
Venom's Pistol provide some flexibility as well. With both out, venom can be a 3 thwart, 4 Attack or 4 defense.
Spider-Sense is also really beneficial in this deck as you draw everytime the villain initiates an attack against you. Get a tough from Noble sacrifice let them attack and draw a card.
To continually play allies we are going to abuse "Welcome Aboard" which cuts the cost of the next ally played that phase by 2. A fun note with this is that Lockjaw can be targeted in the discard pile by welcome aboard. No more turns of being stuck with a WA and no ally to play. Lockjaw is a great target for GDS which would deal 4 damage and Noble Sacrifice which would get you 4 health and a tough while he also provides that 2 attack/thwart.
We don't want to chump block unless absolutely necessary. Venom has enough health to take a shot especially if you have a Noble sacrifice waiting in hand.
Between welcome aboard and venoms ability to generate a resource, you'll have no problems paying for the expensive allies. And if Venom wasn't rich enough, we've added several cards to draw him more cards!.
Command Team helps us get the most out of our allies before we sacrifice them. Or can be used after strength in numbers to get the card draw and then their activation on top of it.
Our primary targets for Noble sacrifice are:
Martinex he's 2 cost in hero form and provides 4 health plus a tough. His weak stats are perfect for pinging toughs or finishing clearing a side scheme before being sacrificed. One of the more cost effective options.
Groot gives you 6 health and a tough. I like defending with him once or twice before sacrificing him if able to.
Drax provides 3 Attack against villains and then will get you 4 health plus a tough when sacrificed.
Lockjaw provides 4 health and a tough as well. He's also able to be played from the discard which allows you to dump him and have an ally on standby all game.
Venom](/card/27190) provide 4 from gds or 6 health from Noble sacrifice. The extra encounter card can be rough but Command team and using his ability to deal extra damage gets him out of there pretty quickly.
Kaluu is the only ally that doesn't really qualify for being sacrificed and I went back and forth on including him or not but after turns of him grabbing SiN, welcome aboard or Run and Gun he solidified his spot.
Black Panther is the decks Swiss army knife. He provides 2/2 stats and is a good candidate for GDS and Noble Sacrifice but his biggest value is grabbing a blue event from discard. Which one you grab can be based on board state. Have an ally that's on their last hit point? Grab Noble sacrifice from discard and get their health/tough.
Need to finish off a minion or the villain? Grab Go down swinging.
Have another ally in hand to play? Grab welcome aboard( provided you have not played one this phase)
Overall the deck has performed really well and feels really thematic. I'd love to hear any feedback or experiences with it!
I've been trying this out and love the thematic concept. It makes “Welcome Aboard” seem like the opening to a horror film. I've added in “Team-Building Exercise” and “Knowhere” - I don't know if it's necessary but I enjoy building out a but of an engine. Instead of using Command Team, I've put in Major Victory (as he's a Guardian who can ready allies and compliment Knowhere and TBE) and I'm also running a couple copies of Blaze of Glory to get as much value as possible from Guardians before they're sacrificed.
