Team-Up cards are a cool idea, but it's hard to get both characters in play and the Event in hand. You can't really build around them because they're 1 per deck and so you won't reliably do it.
Now that there's a whole host of them for the X-men, I thought it'd be fun to try and fit as many as possible into one deck (be aware - this is against the deckbuilding rules). I've managed six (seven if you're playing Project Wideawake and sneak in an Unlikely Duo ) with nine allies (plus a second Phoenix, which is also againstthe deckbuilding rules).
To mitigate the issues with reliability, the aim isn't to go for a specific Team-Up, but to try and set up to allow me to play whichever one Lady Luck deigns to give.
There isn't really an ideal ally to go for, although both Colossus and Phoenix have two Team-Up cards so they're never bad picks. At maximum, you can have Cyclops plus five allies in play at any one time. I think the 'best' five is Colossus, Wolverine, Shadowcat, Phoenix and Storm, as that gives you the ability to play Soul Sisters, Shadow and Steel, Psychic Rapport and Fastball Special. Having said that, Rogue does work quite nicely with Wolverine.
It's otherwise a fairly standard "To Me, My X-Men!" deck, in that you want to dig through your deck with Cerebro and "To Me, My X-Men!" to find X-Men. Then buff their hitpoints with Uncanny X-Men and Team Training to keep them around. Don't be too afraid of throwing allies away - Call for Backup and Won't Stay Down can return allies from the bin.
There's probably an argument that the deck should be cut down to 40 cards for efficiency but A - a lot of the 'extra' cards are things like Won't Stay Down or Call for Backup which dilute the deck less as they go and find other cards. B - trying to play a load of Team-Up cards was already a fairly sub-optimal plan, I'm not sure it's the deck size that's making it janky.
Thematically it works quite well, throwing Field Commander down, seeing which X-men you can pull together and hoping you can use their synergies to save the day. Definitely feels like you're Cyclops, relying whichever mutants are available to pull together, whilst hoping Logan and Jean aren't hiding together at the bottom of your deck.

Dec 21, 2024Great idea for a deck! Gives me an idea to play 2 handed with Rogue and Cyclops and give Rogue all the basic allies and their team up cards, then she can pull the one that is valid using Superpower Adaptation...once I get all these packs |

This is an A+ title and a fun deck idea I’ve not seen before. Well done, thanks for sharing! I’ll be trying this one out!!
