The Scenario

I went into this matchup against Sandman thinking it would be relatively easy; case and point I tried Ghost-Spider first. The pace of heroic makes him very dangerous. I've never felt too much pressure from City Streets on any other difficulty. It gets much easier with more players since more characters can help remove them and keep it low. But man, I felt it in these games. There really were Surging Sands!

The Heroes

Other Heroes

I tried with Ghost-Spider first for three games with protection. The first two games were perfect defense and the third was a mix of some defense events and then the Web Warriors. It was too slow. I couldn't keep up with the threat and I wasn't doing enough damage either.

Strategy Evolution

I tried Web Warrior protection for the first 3 games with Miles and had a mixture of losing to threat and being defeated. Across all the games, one of the biggest factors of me losing was the number of sand counters on City Streets). It would discard so many cards from the encounter deck that the acceleration token and sometimes even the 3 indirect damage from Hapless Pedestrians was too much. In all three of my first protection games with Miles I drew Shadow of the Past... Was drawing it correlated/causing me to lose? Probably.

I won my first try with leadership, but there were some key differences. First, I didn't draw Shadow of the Past. Second, I was able to keep the sand counters on City Streets low. Third, extra activations with Spider-Man (Peter Parker). I was able to play him relatively early, but there was one turn in particular that helped get me to the end game. I played Rapid Response (the only leadership card I played in the game and not even multiple times, just this single time) and I used it on Peter Parker in the hero phase to get a couple extra activations and it took Sandman down to 4 remaining HP. The next turn I was able to finish Sandman off.
