Mission Briefing

Captain America and Winter Soldier

CLASSIFICATION: Level 7 — Eyes Only OPERATIVES: Agent Steve Rogers (Captain America), Agent James "Bucky" Barnes (Winter Soldier)

OBJECTIVE: Neutralize the villain with 20+ damage per round

The mission runs in four phases:

  1. Asset Recovery: locate and deploy Agent Barnes using three retrieval protocols.
  2. Threat Containment: hold the schemes with Agent Rogers's double thwart and clear the player side schemes that power the operation.
  3. Equipment Requisition: open the armory and fit Agent Barnes with the full kit, for 9 damage per activation.
  4. Joint Operation: loop the Super-Soldiers Team-Up for 15 damage and a tough every round, then close in with Agent Rogers.

Phases 1 and 2 run at the same time. Phase 3 starts once Agent Barnes is in the field. From Phase 4 on, the villain's time is short.

Phase 1: Asset Recovery

The operation depends on a single asset: Winter Soldier. Three retrieval protocols are available to locate him:

Phase 2: Threat Containment

This unit is rated for heavy threat control. Agent Rogers is cleared for two thwart actions per round, neutralizing 4 threat. Agent Barnes removes an additional 2 threat for each hostile he eliminates. Command has therefore authorized multiple player side schemes in the field. These operations are the core of the mission. Do not skip them.

Phase 3: Equipment Requisition

Once Agent Barnes reports for duty, the armory is authorized for release:

  • Lock and Load → deploys Bambino directly to the field: +3 damage and overkill on a basic attack.
  • Sidearm: +1 ATK and ranged.
  • S.H.I.E.L.D. Sidearm: +1 additional damage on each basic attack.
  • Enraged: +2 ATK.
  • S.H.I.E.L.D. Deputy: +1 hit point to absorb consequential damage. Issue the badge while operating as Steve Rogers, since it requires a S.H.I.E.L.D. identity.

Projected output: each activation delivers 5 + 3 + 1 = 9 damage. Each confirmed elimination removes 2 threat.

Phase 4: Joint Operation

Your goal is then to play in a loop super-soldiers.

  1. equip Aggressive Stance. When you engage a minion, discard it to retrieve Super-Soldiers from your deck.
  2. deploy Dynamic Duo to recover Super-Soldiers from your discard pile.

The tough absorbs Agent Barnes's consequential damage, so the loop keeps him operational. Rogers can then defend without any shield the villain.

Combined output: Barnes's attack (9) + Super-Soldiers (6) = 15 damage and a tough for 4 resources.

Close each round with Agent Rogers's basic attack and one of your own events. Expected result: 20+ damage per turn with full protection maintained. Hostiles will not last long.

The constant toughs counteracting Enraged is genius. I love the mission report theme of the write-up

Captain America is still one of my favorite heroes in this game. I have also said that he has the least synergy with Aggression because his shield is not traited as a Weapon. Well, I have never been so happy to be wrong. Thanks, I can't wait to try this out.

@saintmatthew thanks! Keep me posted! Captain has other plays in Aggression, because of the great allies, his serum which generates the right icons for many cool cards.

Cheers man, good write up. Have been running this solo, works quite well. You ever play Marvel Rivals? All I hear when using this deck and taking a big swing with Winter Soldier is “Armed and Dangerous” haha

@19bonza19 thanks! It’s so exciting to read that someone, somewhere, is having fun with my little story with those cards. I never played rivals, but I only have a switch. Looks like fun!
