"Have at thee!" — Response: After you engage a minion, draw 2 cards. (Limit once per phase.)

Asgardian Christmas

I posted this deck earlier as just a list, but I had a lot of fun with it today, so I'll be writing a small guide.

First of all, check out the original blue christmas list for a general write-up. This is basically a continued version of that beautiful deck by boomguy from The Winning Hand.

Thor Today

  • His kit in general is not very good anymore. During pass 1 through our deck, we want to be playing allies for various purposes: Thwarting, collecting traits for Strength in Diversity and blocking if needed
  • We do want to play his upgrades if we can, all of God of Thunder, Asgard, Mjolnir and Thor's Helmet are pretty good
  • What is VERY good however, is the ability on Thor himself. This deck aims to have multiple avenues to trigger a minion on your own turn
  • What brings this deck over the top is the insane scaling of Strength in Diversity in solo. It's like a swiss army knife that just solves most of the situations you find yourself in cleanly. You basically only need one ally for it to be an effective play, so it's very easy to get it online. Remember, Thor will have Aerial early on due to Mjolnir, so essentially he starts off with 3 traits
  • I cannot stress enough how important this card is for Thor. It solves problems Thor could not reasonably solve himself in time and is super efficient and dynamic while doing so. It is a true game changer and makes thwarting consistent and strong. This card gives you the room to breathe to set up AND is a finisher itself in the late game, all while being set up by doing something we want to do anyway - play allies.

General Plan

Nice to Know

  • Black Panther is very good in this deck, it recurs all of our key pieces among allies and events. It can fetch Make the Call, which can fetch Hugin & Munin for a Thor trigger or fetch Strength in Diversity which is one of your main problem solvers. If you have a beefy ally in hand, it can even fetch Squared Off
  • Make the Call can fetch Black Panther, so you will have virtual access to your most important cards a lot of the time
  • Make the Call is strong in Thor because it enables virtual card selection. On a hero with 4 hand size in hero form, this is an important utility to have so you can spend your resources as much as possible
  • Clarity of Purpose is strong on Thor in particular because he is so bulky by nature and you buffer hit points by sometimes blocking with allies to maximize their value before you play the next one
  • Slingshot is nice here, you can use her slinging ability to temporarily buff up a Strength in Diversity and paying one resource for 2 thwart is good in Thor anyway. If you sling her from hand to hand, you also keep something in hand to maximize the value from Squared Off

Other Cards

  • Quincarrier obviously, but I felt I got enough economy already
  • Professor X fits nicely in here, but I opted for Kid Omega instead
  • Nick Fury because Nick Fury, but on 4 hand size, that's complicated
  • Mockingbird is also cool but I feel she is worse than the other cards currently included here
  • Player Side Schemes in general, but I don't like them on low-thwart heroes, I feel like they don't help me to stabilze here and once we do, we usually don't need them anymore. (I do like them very much in things like Phoenix, though.)
  • Limitless Stamina is also very nice, but I had no space for it, the allies, events and economy are all more important than this one

Have Fun

Leadership keeps getting broken stuff, but I am here for it. Hope you have fun with this as well, this deck is probably Thor's strongest solo option. It's also not really something you can slap onto ANY other hero, it really benefits from Thor's "Have at thee" ability and the more-or-less native 3 traits from Thor. In essence, his ability glues together several broken leadership card packages.
