-------------- BLOOD HUNT

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

At first this might look like a normal Tigra aggression deck. Gather minions, draw tons of cards, and completely destroy the villain.

Well, it is.

But we are here for one thing

To hunt monsters.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

This minion comes from the Horror mod set and takes double damage from attacks with piercing. Ummmm actualllyyyyy, it says the those attacks deal double damage to them. That distinction is important. Instead of the minion just taking more damage, the actual attack gets doubled first, then it goes to the minion. So if we combine that with a large enough attack and give it overkill, we can transfer all that doubled damage to the villain!

Now for a brief aside about modular sets: You might be wondering, isn't this too niche? You need to be using the Horror set, and I haven't broken out those Mojo villains in ages. Fear not. You can add this modular set to almost any Scenario! Some of you know this already, but any modular sets listed in the scenario as "recommended" can be swapped out for another mod set. Most scenarios have at least one recommended set, and this is what you will substitute with the Horror set. On top of this, you can often add an extra mod set without messing with the balance of the scenario too much, so feel free to experiment a bit with your custom games. I like adding the Inheritors in addition to Horror for more vampires to hunt down! You don't get the double damage combo on these ones, but its fun for the theme and they can be fairly challenging.

Vampire Slaying

So what we are going to need is piercing, overkill, excess damage, and a way to summon more Vampires. Guess what? Tigra has all of this in her base kit. Her Sharp Claws are the perfect Vampire Slaying weapon, giving her extra attack and either piercing or overkill. And she has two, so both are covered. Hunted is, of course, the best way to track down more Vampires, alongside her Midnight Mission partner Moon Knight

We have Hand Cannon for another source of overkill, and Savage Strike for a secondary source of piercing. This makes our combo very consistent, as you'll only need one Sharp Claw and either a hand cannon or savage strike to start slaying. The Horror mod set also comes with Bandolier of Stakes, which can give you piercing. You can't rely on getting this but is very nice if you do.

The last piece of our combo is excess damage, and we are specifically looking to increase our base attack here. Combat Training and Aggressive Conditioning are the foundation, and will bring Tigra's base attack up to 4. Each Claw will add +1 ATK, and a Hand Cannon will add +2 ATK, bringing the total to 8 ATK. Savage Strike is a key damage component, bringing it up another +6, to 14 total ATK. There are ways to bring it up even further, such as stacking Hand Cannons and Savage Strikes, Skilled Strike and Cell Phone.

Lets just use that more reasonable 14 number. This will double to 28 when hitting the Vampire. Subtract its 6 hit points, and you are dealing 22 damage to the villain! This will be enough to finish off a villain at most player counts, and then you can repeat the process again next turn- another Hunted, draw another Savage Strike, and finish the villain off for good.

Pack Hunting

We have assembled a team of skilled vampire hunters to deal with this scourge. Moon Knight to track them down. Blade, the veteran hunter. Shark-Girl, who excels at striking down hunted prey. Marvel Boy, who can pierce the heart of those inflicted. And Winter Soldier, who can deal with any threats mid combat.

Setting the Scene

This deck should always be paired with the Horror mod set. Which means we should probably look at some of the other encounter cards that it comes with. Starting with The Mojo Files.

If Mojo Files comes into play, then all minions gain quickstrike. As a Hunter, you do not want to get ambushed. Luckily, we have ways to work around this. First off, if we play Hunted while in alter ego, we can avoid quickstrike altogether. Otherwise, we have Target Spotter which prevents them from activating at all for the rest of the turn. This is the main purpose of this card, but it is also nice in multiplayer to pull minions away from your friends.

But it's not all bad. The Mojo Files also strengthen our allies by decreasing the damage they take from hunting down minions. This is especially great for Winter Soldier, who loves taking down minions. Yes, if he gets the final blow, we don't get a counter on Hall of Heroes, but we will be getting plenty of those already. Shark-Girl gets +1 Attack vs any Hunted target. She only has 2 hit points, so you typically will only trigger it once and then maybe have her block an attack. With Mojo Files, now she can be a constant source of minion damage. Marvel Boy's main purpose here is to get piercing so that he can hit the Vampire for 4 damage, leaving it with 2 hit points left- Perfect range for a big overkill strike. Blade is the only one who doesn't benefit here, but he was an auto-include for me. Not only for the theme, but he is a useful energy sink, and a nice 1 cost ally to block if necessary.

"How many times do I have to put you in the ground" - Blade

The mod set also contains the aforementioned Bandolier of Stakes and 3 more minions. Two of them are pretty insignificant. Werewolf Pack has a When revealed effect that can be avoided by pulling him into play with Hunted or Moon Knight. Cultist is a very weak minion that you could ignore, if not for the fact that when he activates, he summons The Kraken. In solo, this monster is easy enough to knock out. But it gets 6 health per player, so be aware of that.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Game Plan

Early game, you want to build out your board with upgrades. Collect minions so that you can draw more cards from On the Hunt, and "Bring It!". Avoid taking too much damage from minions by killing them off after they lose the stun status, then replace them with more minions. Slaying minions fills up your Hall of Heroes so that you can draw even more when you flip to alter ego. Cat's Head Amulet will make it easy to play 3 cost cards like Aggressive Conditioning and Savage Strike.

You want a couple minions out to get Tigra to full power. Werewolf Pack, Vampire, and Cultist are all good targets to Hunt down. The Werewolf Pack should be defeated before they can actually attack you, and the Cultist shouldn't be allowed to activate at all. (unless The Kraken is in play, then you can ignore the cultist.) So there's 3 minions in this set that are worth Hunting, which is good. But you may want one or two more decent targets. Usually there is a tolerable minion or two in one of the other sets. If not, you can add Face the Past to find The Hood.

Moment of Triumph will easily be a full heal when used with our vampire combo. Aggressive Stance might not be able to grab Savage Strike since it isn't an attack, but getting more copies of Tooth and Claw is too good to pass up on.

Finale

The rest of the deck here helps round things out.

This deck can be played at any player count, but I find it to be best with two or more players. For solo, you can remove the Cell Phone and the Target Spotter and replace them with whatever you want. Psylocke, Into the Fray, and Looking for Trouble are good options to deal with threat. Skilled Strike is a flex slot. 4 extra damage for a 0 cost card is fantastic, but its not necessary. You can add more or replace it as you see fit.

Update: so far, the most I've done was 34 overkill damage to Drang in one attack (with 34 healing from Moment of Triumph xD)

Happy Hunting!
