Symbiote Suit is an interesting card that a lot of heroes can easily ignore and leave out of their deck, but I got to thinking who would really benefit from it? That brought me to Thor who gets some exceptional value from every single item the card grants including the extra encounter card as extra encounter cards roughly equates to more draw.
The playstyle revolves around Hammer Throw and Into the Fray. As such, Follow Through becomes a great card along side Moment of Triumph. Follow Through will mostly be used as a resource early on and is only recommended to play after more important pieces come together. I typically find room to squeeze one onto the field during the first cycle and the other two on the second pass. It's still an MVP card though due to it increasing damage, thwart potential, and healing.
The Bifrost is incredibly good. The Asgard allies, while mostly all aggression, have a ton of flexibility. Call on Angela when you need draw and targets to hit, Throg when you need a shield, Valkyrie when you're overrun by minions, Lady Sif when you need a ready, and Thor when you just really want the villain dead. Once I have The Bifrost in play, I almost never not use it unless I'm at my ally limit or they're all in my discard.
Which leads into Boot Camp. Since you'll likely always be at your ally limit and swinging for the fences with them, Boot Camp will quickly pile on the damage since everyone but Throg has three health and gets multiple attacks. Thor's allies will never be good thwarters, so this will make them hit that much harder while Thor handles thwarting with Defender of the Nine Realms and Into the Fray.
Keep in mind, Thor is a setup hero. He can certainly swing early for good damage, but he does his best work when he's gotten time to get his upgrades and supports out which means he excels in multiplayer games. I have cleared a bunch of expert solos with previous iterations of Thor as he's easily my favorite hero in Marvel Champions, but some encounters are definitely not his forte.
I know someone will ask, "What about Team-Building Exercise?" It's a fine card that I was already cutting prior to The Bifrost from Valkyrie's hero pack, but now TBE will have even less utility since the Bifrost will just be summoning allies. Feel free to use it if you want. If I was absolutely forced to remove something for it, I'd choose either Boot Camp or one copy of Follow Through, but cutting either does dig into how quickly you'll close out a game.
If you made it this far, thank you for reading and I hope you give Thor a chance to don the iconic Symbiote Suit. I'll likely be running this version of the deck for a long time and hope my brother's Quicksilver and my Thor can rip through the two newest campaigns on expert.
