The SP//dr hero pack has blessed us with great gifts for DRAX!!! This deck is all about using those new gems: Limitless Stamina, Unshakable, Repurpose and Forcefield Generator.

The KEY COMBO

When you've built Drax's vengeance counters to the max, use Repurpose in combination with Forcefield Generator to turn Drax into a monstrous 7 ATK hero! But wait, there's more: if you managed to play Drax's Knife and Symbiote Suit, you're actually a 9 ATK hero!

You then attack as many times as you can using cards to ready yourself ("Fight Me, Coward!", What Doesn't Kill Me, Limitless Stamina, Repurpose) and ideally play free Knife Leaps. Oh, Parry and Payback benefits from it too! OTKs are possible, 2-3 attacks per turn being quite common - and sometimes more.

You could also use Intimidation to burst thwart - or choose Repurpose to boost your THW or DEF if needed.

ALSO INCLUDES

  • DMG mitigation with Parry, Forcefield Generator / Energy Barrier. Energy Barrier is actually a failsafe for Forcefield Generator, because FORCEFIELD has "forced interrupt" and you may end up discarding it against your will. Barrier is less powerful, but more reliable as you may choose not to remove a counter - and so, it is a reasonable sub.

  • Healing with What Doesn't Kill Me / Mantis, of course.

  • Preventing Stuns with Unshakable... you don't want to waste your attacks!

  • LOTS of damage from vengeance counters, multiple attacks per turn with your ready cards AND also from Payback (don't forget your boost with Repurpose lasts until the end of the round, making 9 DMG Paybacks possible!)

GAME PLAN

If you have little experience with Drax, here's the fight plan:

  • You need to get hit by the villain 3 times to build your vengeance counters. Defend against these attacks to minimize loss of HP - you don't want to have to revert to AE and lose them! Use ways to mitigate damage (Energy Barrier, Forcefield Generator, Parry) or heal (Mantis, What Doesn't Kill Me) to stay as high HP as possible.

  • Meanwhile, you want to put in play DWI Theet Mastery - which yields incredible results with multiple attacks, Drax's Knife, or even Symbiote Suit, allies, your protective techs again... everything helps.

  • If you've got starting side schemes to deal with (ex: Expert Klaw), your allies have all been chosen to help. Mulligan for Multiple Man if you have to, he's great (against Klaw he can clear both side schemes in the first 2 turns). Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon have also been chosen because they THW 2, completing the usual 3 needed for side schemes (in solo, which is my M.O.). Rocket Raccoon also helps with minions if needed and, after the initial THW, Multiple Man becomes a "3 THW, 3 blocks" ally so you can keep your HP high to do your thing.

  • Once you got your 3 vengeance counters, things usually get a lot better. Every attack the villain makes gives you another card. With DWI Theet Mastery, every attack you make does the same, helping you find more cards to ready yourself and hit the villain hard! Knife Leaps become free, Parry lets you evade an entire attack, Intimidation keeps you on top of things. Don't be afraid to hold on to Parry for a damage-free villain turn.

Put an Energy Barrier or Forcefield Generator in play, multiple attacks each turn, and then when you draw repurpose it's the race to the finish! The key is to have ways to stay in hero form by healing, mitigating damage, blocking with allies. With such a high ATK and so many cards to ready, the villain comes down quickly!

Oh man, those new Prorection cards in the SP//dr pack are awesome aren't they? Can't wait to see how to add Repurpose to Quicksilver next!

Anyways, love this build... one quick question about Leading Blow? Normally that's mainstay in Drax protection... any reason's it didn't make the cut?

Either way, great deck here! Love seeing what some of these new cards do to some of the older heroes now.

I definitely overlooked that Repurpose works for Parry and Intimidation until reading this!

Thanks guys!

@teamcanadahockey2002 I cut Leading Blow to get a full set of Limitless Stamina because it lets you thwart twice when absolutely needed, Leading Blow is a little less versatile (don't forget in solo with Drax, early game thwarting is an issue).

That being said, Leading Blow is indeed incredible... I should try integrating a 2-of but still unsure where to cut for this (maybe 1 Limitless Stamina, 1 Energy Barrier?). I should test this.

@neothechosen Love this deck. If you’re looking to add Leading Blow (which you should, because it’s absurd on Drax), either you suggested could be swapped out. Think about it this way: Leading Blow is just straight up free damage when DWI Theet Mastery is out. Because Energy Barrier can only be used after Forcefield Generator, I think they don’t go well together, and the latter is much more important.

@neothechosen I'm not convinced Unshakable is really worth playing in any protection deck.

I think The Night Nurse is still a much better card. It stops 3 separate stun/confuses whilst healing you 3. I can't see games ever going long enough that Unshakable is doing more than that.

Drax just keeps getting better and better lol. my favourite part of this deck is how completely useless Leading Blow is, even though you have an absolutely insane ATK after Symbiote Suit and Repurpose
