Spider-Man - Always Current

This deck is part of a series of Current environment decks of the Core Set heroes that I intend to continuously update as new expansions are released and as legality in the Current environment rotates. No matter when you come upon this deck, it will be upgraded with the latest and greatest Current environment cards and will only contain cards from packs that you can (hopefully) still find in stock.

Decks in this series are built to be strong and consistent, but wherever possible, card choices are made to provide satisfying mechanical or thematic interactions with the hero. If you are someone who enjoyed playing Spider-Man in the Core Set, I hope you'll enjoy upgrading him with my suggestions!

Current Environment: [Age of Apocalypse --> Civil War]

Like She-Hulk, Spider-Man benefits greatly from this current environment with the existence of Ready for a Fight, allowing him to access his Scientist ability and use Aunt May in alter-ego form during the player phase while getting his hero ability and opportunities to defend during the villain phase. Where this deck differs from the She-Hulk Current deck I shared is a focus on defending, which will always be a natural fit for Spider-Man due to his 3 DEF stat and excellent healing.

Taunt is a bit of a trap for most heroes, but by triggering Spider-Man's Spider-Sense ability, it usually breaks positive for him. Here's as good a chance as any to try out this unique card.

Indomitable is my defending enabler of choice. While "I Can Do This All Day" exists in this current environment as well, the fact that Indomitable is an upgrade means you can save it in play for when you really need it. Indomitable can also be grabbed by Yellow Jacket.

With all the defending we're doing, Defensive Conditioning is a natural choice. Stacking DEF buffs gives diminishing returns, so I haven't included Armored Vest, but it's viable if you want to make that modification.

Excelsior is a fun one that provides a flexible way to convert more resources to damage if needed. Web-Shooter, Practiced Plan, and Spider-Tracer can provide the resource.

Among the allies, White Widow provides consistent thwarting, Grant Ward's downside is mitigated by Web-Shooters to pay the or Aunt May to heal the damage, Yellow Jacket has no shortage of targets, and Nick Fury and Patriot are staples.
