Well, Gambit he got himself a little deck for the ol' Con-o-Heroes '25 bout right here.
Gambit he be bouttamakeanameformyself at the con.
What's 'dis here deck do?
-
Use AE thwart ability
One big problem, Gambit have is he wants to use his Alter Ego stealin' ability every turn. But, he also want to attack and use his defensive abilities. Well, Cher, Gambit he be Ready for a Fight now. Go to Alter ego, get your T'eives Guild style abilities, 'den pop back into action charge 'dem cards and... -
Defend
Dis here protection deck will be having Gambit doin' some defending. But, Gambit he not be defending for the table. Sure, he'll be a team player every once a while. But don't expect too much defending for the table here, cause

- Put that Gris-Gris On them
Gambit's Staff, Flow Like Water, Electrostatic Armor. Gambit be making them pay for trying to attack him.
Now here's Gambit's real Signature Special Charged Hot Sauce:
"Stop Hitting Yourself" Y'all know Gambit, he not be a SHY guy, mon ami.
But, Gambit's got Armored Vest,Not Today! and Gambit's very own Natural Agility be helping gambit get his defense numbers quite... big, Chere. An' if Gambit want to beef the numbers up more, he swap in Specialized Training to grab da Defense Specialist and draw extra cards.
Those takin a swing at Gambit, 'dey gonna feel it in the morning.
Now, Powerful Punch and "Stop Hitting Yourself", 'dey be attacks. So, Gambit, he's gonna want to charge them. And, they stack on themselves, along with Natural Agility. Gambit's gonna be hitting back for double digits, no problem. And, wit Gambit's luck with the cards, that villain, he non be living for long, now.
Con of Heroes Report
Gambit he get up to 84 damage to da villain 'pon having a couple cards up his sleeves. Villain he don' attack Gambit. Gambit hit blackjack and plays both da Natural Agility and all 3 "Stop Hitting Yourself" and da villain he non too happy, mon ami
CHANGES AND ADDITIONS AFTER THE CON
After playing it through the con weekend, this is far and away my favorite deck in the game right now.
It has a silly giant combo, but is actually working well as a solo deck and a team player in 4 player games. You can likely get the combo up to inanely high numbers by stalling and building up counters, but, I found it still gets that satisfying giant numbers even if you just play a normal game of champions with this deck.
During the Con, I added Defensive Training to shuffle SHY and other protection cards back in. Stacking the deck with a couple SHY when you have a natural agility under Jocasta and another in a thin deck. means you are about to have a massive turn of kinetic energy.
I also am considering Face the Past. This adds minions to the deck to set up for the staff or powerful punch etc. to trigger change of fortune. It also helps gambit get his essential pieces on the board and the ready from FTP is never wasted because gambit does his damage int he villain phase.
I have this version published to preserve the memory of the amazing Con of Heroes 2025 and all the fun I had playing this deck with friends new and old. But: If you want a constantly updated version of the deck as I continue to test and iterate for 1-4 player games. Here is the link to the private deck version:

Apr 27, 2025That’s awesome!! I can’t wait to try this out as soon as I can get Silk down here! |
Apr 27, 2025Been meaning to run Gambit with Stop hitting yourself. This looks awesome! |
Apr 27, 2025can't wait to see this in action |
Apr 27, 2025Gonna need an update on your biggest Stop Hitting Yourself at the Con! |
Apr 27, 2025I'm thrilled to see Protection is getting such a boost in this wave! |
Apr 27, 2025Gambit can have some insane defense numbers. 3ER for 12+ damage in the villian phase sounds pretty fun |
Apr 28, 2025I wanna hear other people’s shy numbers if they get them. If you have a deck with it, feel free to share here too! I’m always happy to learn from the great minds and players out there! |
Apr 30, 2025Sounds like fun! Hope to see it during CoH! |
May 01, 2025Gambit is one of my favorite heroes, especially for playing protection! Looks like a great deck for the con! |
May 02, 2025I'm looking forward to seeing this at the Con of Heroes! I want to see how big of a number people can get with "Stop Hitting yourself"! |
May 02, 2025I assume you meant Specialized Training. I like "Not Today" but hard to ignore is likely just better. I'm also a fan of Synch, which works with "Stop hitting yourself" |
May 04, 2025Dude! This deck is insane! Watching it decimate MaGog was incredible! I’m so glad we got a game in, and it was with this deck. I’m absolutely gonna build this when I get back home! Dang good! |
May 05, 2025I saw this deck in action at Con of Heroes and it was amazing to witness. Remy defended for over 20 during a single attack and then dealt that (potential) damage back to the villain. |

In solo I hit back for 40 damage from a single defense. In most the rest of the games Gambit was set up quickly and defending for a lot for the table once armor was out and simultaneously taking out minions. I couldn't help but try to be a team player and play the best cards for the boardstate rather than try and set up the combo. However, I was able to still consistently get big numbers. Typically around 18-25 damage off of defending a single attack. In a game with Nelson all over cards, Man-is-obsolete and Giant Lasagna we got a 36 damage done from defending an attack. But, on my final play with him at the con I got the super combo set up in a four player game with Corbin, J__G and one other player. (This is thanks to adding Defensive Training and Face the Past). Defensive training allowed me to get SHY back in circulation and FTP gave me more minions to staff for change of fortune. In that game, I was able to play both Natural Agility and all 3 "Stop Hitting Yourself" defending an attack from the villain. 79 damage to the villain from defending that attack. |

Yes, you can have specialized training or superpower training. Superpower gets you the staff and armor which are both essential. Specialized is harder to pull off since Gambit isn't thwarting a ton, but it works well. Good catch that I published the list with superpower but reference specialized in the writeup. I will edit that. I often ended up cutting the Player side scheme in the 4 player games when they were in someone else's deck. I think for solo I'd maybe try specialized first to see if that works for you, since he is definitely defending a ton. Good suggestions. While this deck definitely holds up in solo for me, I can totally see Hard to Ignore in a solo or 2 player game. This particular deck wants to get the DEF stat up for the SHY combo, but also, when the villain is hitting pretty hard, the extra def came in very handy for triggering armor and unflappable. That, and I like the flexibility to remove threat from anywhere that Not Today! offers. Synch is a fantastic idea!! I ended up never playing Nightcrawler, so I will see if Synch gets to the table for me, but that's a great suggestion! Thanks! |
May 06, 2025So I had a front row seat to this deck doing its thing on the last day of the con. We were playing a mild-mannered game of Tower Defense, and Brian was over there occasionally helping a bit here or there, but mostly not really doing much. Then he says "I think I'm ready." "Ready for what?" We said. 79 damage later... "Uhh... where'd the villains go?" |
May 06, 2025I realized I forgot electrostatic armor... 80! |
May 08, 2025The legend of this deck continues to grow! |
May 17, 2025A prestigious member of the community reached out and we checked some rules interactions. He was able to help me through a full audit of my defense at the Con and it turns out staff hit for 1 and then gambit defended for 24. Which brought the damage tally from defending that one attack to 84. Last edit. All this was with only 8 counters on gambit to start the villain phase. I’m sure that people can easily break 100 without even gaming the scenario. And if you can game it, well deep into triple digits. |
Sep 04, 2025Just played this deck for the first time and... wow. Definitely one of my favorite SHY heroes now. It's so easy to get up to those high numbers. I played the updated version of this too. Great deck! |
Love this! Such a great target for both "Stop Hitting Yourself" and Ready for a Fight.
