Welcome to my Heroic Roulette deck series for Next Evolution! I've previously completed this challenge with the Sinister Motives box, 4/5 of the Mutant Genesis box, and the Core Set. The goal is to craft decklists for a specific hero vs. scenario matchup and to win on heroic difficulty. Additionally, heroes must come from the same wave as the box release, and no hero or aspect may be used more than once over the course of the 5 scenarios in the box. You may wish to recreate some of these matchups using my decklists for some awesome games, or adhere to the rules of the challenge and choose your own matchups!

For each of the 5 decks, I'll talk about why I chose that matchup on it's own page, but here's the overview.

Round 1: Domino 'Pool vs. Morlock Siege
Round 2: Cable Aggression vs. On The Run
Round 3: Deadpool Protection vs. Juggernaut
Round 4: X-23 Leadership vs. Mister Sinister
Round 5: Psylocke Justice vs. Stryfe

Matchup

Since this is one of the easier scenarios, it gets some of the leftovers from the options not chosen for harder rounds 3-5. My main consideration was that Routed provides the villains with retaliate, so Domino was chosen for her ranged attack pistols to make sure I can close out the game without dying. 'Pool is currently the weakest of the aspects with such a low card pool to draw on, but Domino loves to play Rock, Paper, Scissors, and some of the strongest cards Cutupper and Blackout are at their best in the one scenario where villains don't come steady or stalwart.

Gameplan

Although there are 7 different villains you could be facing, they are all alike in that they can be stunned/confused, and one of their attack interrupts is simply more ATK, which can be safely chosen as long as you do an ally block (with the exception of Harpoon). Another important strategy for this scenario is to conduct all your setup against the first villain, since the subsequent villains gain retaliate, and tons of encounter cards like Back in Action get worse when there are more villains under Routed.

Card Choices

3x Digging Deep, White Fox - the essential Domino package

Mockingbird, Professor X, Cutupper, Blackout - make sure we can stun and confuse whenever possible

The Posse, Atlas Bear - the Posse is extremely strong and not much opportunity cost

3x Mulligan - a focal point of any 'Pool strategy. It can always default to resetting a bad hand, but with lots of ways to use cards without playing cards, Mulligan becomes a strictly positive gain of cards in hand

Stick-To-Itiveness, Blackout, Tic-Tac-Toe, Plot Convenience, Machine Man - said ways to use cards without playing cards

Rock, Paper, Scissors - a spectacular card for Domino. With Domino's hero ability you can know what is on top beforehand. If Jackpot! is in hand, you'll succeed no matter what, and with so many wild cards in deck if you just pick a card in hand without a wild resource, you have a good chance to succeed blind.

Games Review: 2 wins, 1 loss

Loss - Greycrow

Lost turn 1 after getting ambitious with my setup upgrades and leaving no way to block for myself on an extra attack. Oops

Win - Blockbuster, Greycrow, Arclight Win - Harpoon, Chimera, Vertigo

Especially in this scenario, I wanted to try to win a second time to see if the deck was consistent with a different mix of villains. I'd say the deck worked as intended, though I didn't Mulligan as much as I thought I would, and I never assembled The Posse due to the power and depth of Domino's cards and the set-up upgrades.

Conclusion

Thanks for reading! I'll be posting the remaining decks for the Next Evolution scenarios over the coming days, so stay tuned if you're interested for some more decks capable of winning on Heroic difficulty. Next will be Cable Aggression vs. On The Run.

War and Pool Inspection work well in a Domino deck since she could place Pool inspection (or any other higher cost card like White Fox) on top of the deck.
