Hi welcome to the twenty fourth in a series of decks I plan to build directly influenced by the amazing Get Up and Game! Perfect Match-Up series found here: https://youtu.be/1I2q3sT6FoA Please check out the channel and the video since I thought it was an amazing gift to the community and it inspired me to start playing Champions more regularly.

My goal with this series is to create a unique deck inspired by each challenge match-up in the video using all the suggested cards plus some of my own to create a deck that any player can use to check out the challenge. If you’re missing some cards from a deck please ask in the comments and I’ll do my best to find replacements from your collection so that you can have fun too! Hopefully I can build a deck that can beat the villain on both standard and expert. I’ll try to document any tweaks I made while playing the deck too.

Here we go with another first time X-men fight as Cyclops challenges Green Goblin in Mutagen Formula. So far I've really enjoyed playing all the X-men during these match-ups and Cyclops did not disappoint. I've discovered with the last few X-men that I really like that the they seem to be designed around getting a team of allies into the field and just rolling into a villain. Cyclops seems to take this concept to its limits by getting to take any X-men ally he wants along for the ride. I've always viewed Expert Mutagen Formula as one of the toughest scenarios but Cyclops really stepped up to the plate. He defeated Mutagen on Standard and then twice on Expert without a hitch! He handled a first turn Shadow of the Past without blinking. He got his visor stolen, stayed calm and retrieved it. He even survived a turn where I miscalculated damage and ended up having to take 4 encounter cards from the villain!

Two main strategies exist here. Use Priority Targets on Goblin minions to draw more cards while clearing threats with Optic Blast, and build up an army of swarming X-men using a combination of Uncanny X-Men, The Triskelion, Utopia, Cerebro, The X-Jet, and Team-Building Exercise. You don't need to get all of these out although I would definitely prioritize Uncanny X-Men and a card that boosts your ally limit. Then just pop down as many X-men as you can keeping them in rotation to take out minions, remove threat and chump block when necessary. Danger Room Training will get you even more out of them. I try to get Wolverine down any chance I get since he can stay with you the whole game.

Honorary X-Men is there to give Cyclops the X-men trait in alter-ego just to keep things less complicated but late game, it may be better utilized on an ally. I recommend whittling down the villain to 1 or 2 health, then fielding your strongest team of X-men and applying Exploit Weakness to the villain so that you can run down his entire second phase in a single turn to avoid 2-3 additional encounter cards. That being said, I did fail at this in one game and still managed a victory on the next turn. Great match-up that really felt like two armies going head to head. Once again, an X-men Hero I'm looking forward to playing more of.
