Bless My Soul, Herc Was on a Roll...

Muses

One of my favorite archetypes in this game is a build-up hero with a puzzle to solve to get there. Ironheart comes to mind, but her endgame tends to fall flat with people -- once she reaches her endgame, the game tends to be a foregone conclusion.

Herc achieves similar levels of power, but does, fortunately, still have to play (extremely powerful) cards in his endgame.

He's a Hero!

The Labor deck is a really cool idea, representing our heroic journey to Godhood! They're not all created equally, however. Our toughest Labor is definitely Defend Humanity, taking us 3 whole turns, unless we draw a Toe to Toe, and is the primary reason for the inclusion of the card. The other two labors are fairly straight forward to complete, just ready your "pair of perfect pecs" off.

Who Put the Glad in Gladiator?!

After Completing only two of the three Labors, Herc is very much online, as all of his kit at that point will be well above 'rate.' You can make a determination at that point whether to go after the third labor or help stabilize.

We're playing a minion killing strategy, as herc has built in overkill (and can do it multiple times a turn once we can ready our upgrades with Son of Zeus.

This enables us to play things like Throg.

Between Appearance Fees and Royalties, Our Herc Had Cash to Burn...

...at least once he's completed two of the three labors. Symbiote Suit is a pretty divisive card, often seen as "win more" but I feel that once we've gotten to the point of the game where are cards are well above rate, the tradeoff for an extra encounter card becomes a no brainer. Feel free to not include it if you're in the camp that doesn't enjoy it. I found through gameplay testing that Herc forcing the team to support him through the labors creates a situation where there can be very little opportunity to flip down, so the extra handsize for symbiote suit made sense. You could probably also just slap an Avengers Mansion in there for your second pass through the deck.

Thor is included for two reasons: 1. His team-up card is insane with Herc, 2. He can clean up a bad situation that you can sometimes get yourself into with minions. Avengers Compound helps with this, storing Thor until we draw the team-up, or until we need him to clear out a ton of minions at once. Once we're rich from Labors, paying for him isn't an issue.

Face the Past is included because it's an excellent setup card, and we can kill our Nemesis with a single Toe to Toe if we need to, but usually a basic is enough between Lion of Olympus, Combat Training and Aggressive Conditioning powering up our basic ATK stat.

Zero to Hero, just like that!

Herc is a pretty excellent hero, who might be a scenario trivializing hero at some tables. The support required from your team to get you through your labors is a somewhat selfish one, but I'm a sucker for a deck with main character syndrome.

Now go the distance!

@boomguy thanks!

@Castlefrank47 thank you, i couldnt resist making a disney's hercules themed write-up!

@MrSelfDestruct avengers compound is a big help here!

@corbintmmighty thor just didnt make the cut, avengers compound may open this up though!

@dr00 thanks for the kind words, means a lot coming from someone who basically taught me this game through your decks and analysis.

you know Thor Jane Foster triggers ancient rivalry as well? its THE deck for her :P

I would personally switch avenger compound with mansion - with 2 labors already Herc seems to have too much cash on his hand - son of Zeus can be used to ready Olympus for additional resources.

my friend who played him (we always play 3-4 people multiplayer) seems to think best way to play Herc is to build up in alter ego turn one and see what labor is he going to do, then he prepares for it and goes hero form turn 2.

nice deck overall - Kudos!

@Viravandrel respectfully, I pretty much disagree with every one of these takes.

Jane Foster is an ally where the juice ain't worth the squeeze. We're already over 40.

Avengers compound allows us to play Thor on the turn we draw ancient rivalry, making sure we get our value for both cards. Storing Angela for a turn where we want another minion to overkill and heal is also a great play. I'm already not hurting for cards.

Son of Zeus cannot be used to ready Olympus, as Olympus is a support, not an upgrade.

I do not see the point in waiting until turn two, when it's fairly trivial to clear 2/3 of the labors on turn 1, and the third one you want to get started on right away. I also have played herc in almost exclusively 4 player.

Feb 25, 2026 Viravandrel · 15

Well apparently my friend didnt read the card carefully enough :) you are right about Son of Zeus.

about the rest its a matter of preference, i would include avenger mansion and Jane in every Herc deck anyway. he just can too easily pay for it, even if those cards are expensive

about 40... i just wonder why people dont play decks over 40. for me the longer i play this game (2 years and counting) the more i want to include in my decks, even if just for options. lately I have trouble getting decks below 50 cards - there are so many great combo/value cards to include. I know that consistency drops but overall potential of the decks skyrockets.

Okay... I don't understand how you are qualifying 2 of the 3 labors as "trivial to clear on turn 1"... Can you explain?

Most scenarios don't have a non-elite 6hp minion, so you get the hydra... a 12hp minion that costs you an extra resource (or heals 2) per attack that doesn't kill it. Could do it with a very lucky draw with 2 Toe-to-Toes, but that's the only way I can see it, am I missing something big?

And the scheme seems even worse since it will probably have like 8 or 9 threat on it and your base thwart is 1, and your only thwart event is 4ER for 4 threat.

Feb 26, 2026 hitbuttons · 844

@estyles perhaps "trivial to clear on turn 1" is a bit hasty of a sentence for the hydra, but you can easily tee him up for a turn 2 clear, into the second labor, which you can tee up for a turn three clear.

The ideal is actually getting the scheme, as many scenarios have a scheme that qualify, and while you're right that it will have a lot of threat in it, I think you may have skipped over the part where that scheme gains the keyword "assault" meaning your atk stat is used for basic thwarts, making it very easy to clear with even an average hand.

Also, you're able to search anyone's nemesis set in addition to the scenario, so in multiplayer, many different nemesis minions qualify, negating the healing factor of the hydra, and this is something you can plan for. I will admit, clearing the hydra on turn 1 is a bit of magical Christmasland, but I stand by the sentiment that it's still worth progressing on it instead of staying down.

Feb 26, 2026 estyles · 35

I did miss Assault on the scheme - that makes a difference. But I think with either the scheme or minion, you're looking at "teeing up for a turn 2 clear" more than "trivial turn 1 clear". Which is still probably better to progress than not, but I was taking issue with the "trivial to clear 2/3 labours" statement.

Feb 26, 2026 hitbuttons · 844

@estyles a very mediocre hand takes down the worst possible scheme (your nemesis scheme) turn 1. A very good hand kills the hydra turn 1. Try the deck for yourself!

Mar 04, 2026 AjaxWrex88 · 1

Jane Foster, you're cool and all, but only doing 3 with a physical resource vs real Thor clearing the board of minions is so much more efficient. You're at 41 cards, at this point, adding Avengers Mansion wouldn't hurt no body. 40 card only decks are in the past, man.

I absolutely love this write up. It actually makes me excited to try it rather than sleeving the precon and calling it a day. The labors deck makes me weary, but the gifts are too good not to pass up. Symbiote Suit for that +1 hand size is phenomenal. I try my best to wait until the right time to play the suit, but by the time I'm ready for it, the game is practically over. In solo, an extra encounter card is an easy trade off. But when you're in a multiplayer game against Klaw, I learned the hard way that playing to early spells disaster. Hey, for more HP and and additional +1, you could also throw in Aggressive Conditioning. Then you'll be at 43 cards. That would say is enough cards....but I'm sure there's more stuff Herc can have in his deck lol

Edit: I didn't read the list clearly that you already have AC in the deck lol, my bad

I've been playing a lot of this deck and having great success. The only trouble its had so far has been Black Widow (I should have just bit down and waded face first through the preparations), and Baron Zemo (so much threat so quickly).

Definitely my fastest Thunderbolts win though. Took out Fixer on turn 1, Citizen V on turn 2. No labors, just punching.

Update: played a two handed game with Angel Justice against Mutagen Formula. I have to say, Hercules is worthy. I think I had the perfect draws for the labors, which helps. When I was getting ready for the final attack, after Hercules hitting for 8 attack twice, so 16 total. I was in Archangel, used Agile Flight on Goblin Reinforcements, to draw into two goblins with guard. But both heroes were built out to the brim, so I was able to clear out the guards to finish off Green Goblin. Face the Past + Amadeus Cho + Avengers Mansion plus getting a gift out? I almost drew the rest of my deck. FtP is double genius bc Ares is kind of a push over. I didn't really care to not being able to attack the villain bc in the early to mid game, you're focused on attacking minions for profit. This is, without a shadow of a doubt, my favorite new deck. I kinda wanna play again l, but not sure if I want to play true solo, or switch out Angel for PP Spider-Man Leadership that focuses on blinking Moon Girl for profit. We shall see. But for now, congratulations on building this deck. It really does, like you said, goes the distance

@mournful I'm so glad you've been enjoying the deck. I do prefer the deck in a multiplayer setting, although he can definitely thrash a lot of villains true solo as well.

@AjaxWrex88 Thanks for the kind words!! I've really enjoyed playing this deck as well. I have tuned it slightly since publishing, as I have been shown the light of Savage Strike!!! Give it a try, makes the Hydra labor a joke!

Mar 04, 2026 AjaxWrex88 · 1

Ooooo, that's just nasty lol. What do you take out, or did you add in the SS's to make the 41 deck bigger?

Mar 05, 2026 VanyelAshkev · 139

Great deck. :)

In one of the comments above, you mentioned that the minion and scheme labors allow you to search through EVERYONE's nemesis decks. I didn't realize that! Thank you for calling that out.
