Deck Overview

Player Type: Timmy / Johnny
Player Count: 1-2p
Key Cards: Strength in Diversity, Strength in Numbers
Complexity: ★☆☆☆☆
Damage: ★★★☆☆
Threat Control: ★★★★☆
Survivability: ★★★☆☆
Economy: ★★★★★
Card Drawing: ★★★★★

This deck isn't meant to build everything to totally maximize Strength in Diversity, rather it's meant to play a solid deck that will also make Strength in Diversity go crazy when it hits. In testing, this deck was consistently hitting for 13-16 in 2p (and 8-10 in 1p) most turns with Strength in Diversity, without focusing on it too hard.

Why Phoenix?

I chose Phoenix because she starts the game with three traits [Psionic, X-Men, Restrained]; Children of the Atom gets your identity to five traits [X-Factor, X-Force]. Phoenix Suit gets us to six [Aerial] without any allies in play, meaning that for a solo game we are already cooking. The deck sets up fast and doesn't need much to start going.

She also has access to an additional resource she can use from her Phoenix Force upgrade each phase. She also has a starting 3THW, which can help manage the board early, especially in a solo game.

Lastly, she has Mind Control, which blanks a text box of the minion that you take control of, but gives the minion Controlled in addition to whatever keywords it already has.

Deck Breakdown

The Triskelion can get our ally limit to four, and we don’t need to be precious with them. Use them and let them activate and block, and play them again! Many of them have enter play effects, so we are happy to see them go in and our of play.

The allies are selected for a range of traits and useful effects:

  1. Beast [Genius] grabs Band Together
  2. Black Panther [Wakanda, Avenger] grabs Strength in Diversity…or Strength In Numbers if you’re really greedy
  3. Kaluu [Avenger, Mystic] gets an event
  4. Vivian [Aerial, Champion, Android] can blank something nasty
  5. Hugin & Munin [Aerial, Bird, Asgard] can ready up to three (or rarely, 4) characters you control
  6. White Tiger [Avenger] draws you 1-3 cards

The other allies are mostly here for their range of traits: Avenger, Vampire, Mercenary, S.H.I.E.L.D., and Spy.

Resource Reserve helps to hold Band Together until we are ready to pay for Strength in Diversity. Black Panther can grab Strength in Diversity and hold it until we are ready to pop off!

But the real star of the show is the 1-2 punch of Strength In Numbers and Strength in Diversity, which can draw a lot of cards and then clear whatever you need to, while ignoring stun and confuse, and guard and patrol.

I completely spaced that Phoenix had the restrained/unleashed traits. SiD is really great when it hits but really cool to see it can work on its own without it, good stuff!

@Castlefrank47 Yeah, that extra trait really helps, along with Aerial means she can get to 4 with just her own kit...and Strength in Diversity is already worth playing at that point! Such a good card.

I had been thinking about this in the back of my mind, but your excellent Psylocke deck got me really thinking and testing. Awesome deck, but Psylocke has just not really every clicked for me.

@Castlefrank47 I also forgot to mention Mind Control which is a hero card that can provide even more keywords if you want!

I forgot that she gains the form traits. Thats pretty great! And I like the allies and use of SiN. Big fan of comboing it with SiD

@HeroicSkeleton Yeah, it is a ton of fun!

Boomguy you gotta stop coming out with all these great decks I've got a wife and dog to take care of. I can't be playing all the time. Phoenix is my favorite hero so I've gotta see it in action. Love the pod!

@Timmy163 I know, I’m sorry! Inspiration has been a familiar friend recently. I hope you like this one, I’ve had so much fun with it. And thanks for listening to the pod!

Dang! I just watched that deck consistently do 15 split damage/thwart almost every turn. That was ridiculously good.

@andyr That was a fun game! Yeah Strength in Diversity can go really crazy sometimes.

Wow, this is the kind of stuff I miss so often ind eck building. Finding the cards that really match the hero to the fullest potential. Sitting here building a pummel Phoenix deck in Aggression then I see this list and go WOW! Great brew man. Mad props.

Jul 24, 2025 boomguy · 15270

@Sindrik8x Thanks man! This one was a ton of fun and really goes pretty hard. Strength in Diversity is a craaaaaaazy card.

I never came to use SiD, but this looks like a good chance to use it for me....Great deck!

Omg I love the deck overview. I rarely play solo or two handed. Do you think this would perform well in a 4-player pod?

Sep 23, 2025 boomguy · 15270

@Ichaerus I think it can work, there are usually some spare resources around the table to help pay the cost of Strength in Diversity...you can use Band Together to pay for a lot of it!

Sep 29, 2025 AjaxWrex88 · 1

this might actually be the deck that gets me to play Phoenix on the regular, good stuff!

Sep 30, 2025 boomguy · 15270

@AjaxWrex88 Thanks! I hope it’s a fun time!

Dec 23, 2025 Enetx · 1

What would you recommend if I do not have access to the black panther ally?

Dec 23, 2025 boomguy · 15270

@Enetx There isn’t a direct 1:1 for what BP does, but Kaluu is a solid proxy. But you can probably make the deck work even without BP.
