The Winning Hand recently did a deck challenge for the card Great Responsibility and had a lot of entries! I was inspired to post another deck for the challenge.
Episode 68 - Great Responsibility
Please check out the decks that others published for the challenge:
- Boomguy’s “THIS IS A JUSTICE DECK”
- Bendrix's "With Great Mutant Power"
- DantheCrow’s “Spider-Woman’s Responsibility”
- SoloMarvelChampions's "Shield-blocking Threat"
- SortofBoard’s “Ending a Threat before it Starts”
- CastleFrank’s “With Great Responsibility Comes Fried Bacon”
- Urinal Shart’s “Coloprep”
- Caldias' "Spider-Woman Shirks Her Great Responsibilty"
- Marktry’s “ With Great Responsibility Comes... Parry!”
- LACK OF SUBTLETY’s “Banner Minion Rehabilitation Institute”
- Heroic Skeleton’s “THIS IS ALSO A JUSTICE DECK”
- KingOfRohan’s “Great Expectations”
- Rey Plays Games’ “The Damage Merchant”
- im_not_hydra's "With Great Vibranium Comes..."
- Lexicon’s “Nick Fury’s Greater Responsibility”
This is a deck that asks:
Why thwart when you could just not have threat to begin with?
This deck has been tested against expert Venom, expert Zola, expert Hood (with Thunderbolts), expert Dark Beast, and expert On the Run. I have played it at 2p and 3p, and it had performed really well. It is an unusual deck that doesn’t play like many others I’ve seen.
This deck wants to flip almost every round. As a result, don’t be shy to use those counters for his upgrades, and take damage. Use them to boost your basic activation, especially your defense and thwart. Using one counter to add +3 DEF saves counters, and you can spend 2 counters to ready again and 1 more to be able to thwart for +2 THW.
You are going to use every tool you have to prevent threat. We have:
- Great Responsibility to prevent threat by using growth counters, or health
- Foiled! to prevent boosts on a scheme. This can be done in hero or AE, and even for 2 boosts the card is great value. Remember, this card is used after you see the boost card, so you can not use it if there’s no boosts
- Counterintelligence stops threat from being placed anytime you want (Agent Coulson can grab this when he enters play)
- Informant for those pesky minions that come out when you’re in AE, or in front of other players who flip down (Agent Coulson can grab this)
- Disguise gives you something to thwart in AE if you’re staying down
- "Think Fast!" can confuse the villain to prevent an activation from happening
- Beat Cop is a consistent way to remove threat, even one copy out effectively cancels the amount the villain adds to the main scheme for one player
- Eros can confuse minions to prevent them scheming
- Spycraft can cancel a nasty treachery, including Advance (Agent Coulson can grab this)

If you haven’t played Groot in a while, give this one a chance! It’s a lot of fun.
Note: if playing with the Rocket hero at the table, I’d recommend adding Flora and Fauna; if you’re not playing with Rocket at the table, I’d recommend adding him in. Personally, I don’t like playing with the ally as the only target for a team-up card…it’s too inconsistent and not worth deck space.

Jun 28, 2025if you have counters, "Think Fast!" doesn't proc correct? since you can't take damage when you have counters? |

Sep 07, 2025I finally got GMW, so used this 2 handed with Rocket Agression against Drang in the campaign. Before starting seeing that the threat jumps more than other scenarios I was concerned this deck may not keep up, but it sure did. I didn't think of Groot as a flipping hero, but will be using that technique in the future. I will try this deck again in another scenario of the campaign. Since I was playing with Rocket hero, I replaced Rocket Raccoon with a For Justice!, but didn't actually need it. I did end up advancing to stage 2B on the last villian turn due to how the encounter cards landed. Great deck. |
