Hulkling is never stuck with the wrong answer. He simply becomes the answer he needs.
This deck is built around Hulkling's SHAPESHIFT engine and one simple principle: play lots of cheap events, trigger your current form, then change shape and do it again.
Hulkling's base stats may look unimpressive, but they are only the starting point. His SHAPESHIFT upgrades determine what Teddy is capable of at any given moment, while Chosen Shape turns every new form into a ready. Shapeshifter and Teddy's alter-ego ability ensure that the right form is rarely far away.
The Protection package is deliberately packed with 0- and 1-cost events. Cuts Both Ways, Stronger Together, Armored Defense, Disarming Defense, and Riposte aren't merely defensive tools — they are cheap opportunities to trigger whatever SHAPESHIFT ability Hulkling currently has in play.
Armored Defense is particularly nasty. Hulkling can use his DEF without exhausting, absorb the attack, and walk away with Tough. That leaves him available for another activation, another defense, or another shape change.
Stronger Together expands that protection to the rest of the table. Hulkling is an Avenger, Kree, and Skrull, giving him plenty of opportunities to share a trait and use his DEF to keep another character standing — all for zero resources.
When it's time to stop defending and start hitting back, Shapeshifter Strike deals 5 damage while readying the current SHAPESHIFT upgrade, helping Hulkling squeeze even more value from his constantly changing physiology.
The deck isn't trying to build one perfect version of Hulkling and stay there. Quite the opposite.
Choose a shape. Trigger it. Change. Ready. Trigger the next one.
Why adapt to the battlefield when you can become whatever the battlefield requires?
