Way back in the day with just the core set I found that Spider-Man was my favourite of the initial heroes. I’ve always enjoyed Protection the most and paired naturally with my wife’s Aggression tendencies when we played 2 player.
Though as fun as he was I always struggled with him solo trying to thwart and deal with minions, since once can’t win on protecting alone. Also Peter Parker has the great ability of a free genius resource but you almost never got to use it since you had to stay in protection mode hero side. All these factors made Spidey get sidelined until now.
It was playing around with Echo’s protection cards that made me bring Spider-Man back (also watching Brand New Day!) and the no allies build is super strong with him, but it didn’t quite capture Spider-Man for me.
Two big cards really changed this deck for me, Ready for a Fight and Taunt. It’s super thematic to Taunt the enemy and take the 4 card draw (almost an entire hand!) and then flip down to Peter Parker to use heal up with his Aunt and Dr. Sinclair, then be ready for a fight and hop right back into the battle when it’s needed. Symbiote Suit very thematically helps up the cards and give him the extra HP to survive until he can go back to Parker’s life and heal up.
Also for theme we have Black Cat with the Sidearm Punisher punisher art to represent those more villainous allies. white widow actually pairs really well with all the preparation cards and fits her role in the movie. Ward is there for the cheap thwarting and Parker can pay him off, also represents his bad judgment in sketchy characters. And the rest are classic power up protection cards.
Also super fun taunting and flipping down to Parker all the time, and the most thematic Spider-Man I have played.
