Spider-Man as Ronin

No Ally Spider-Man vs Expert Ronan Playthrough

Just like with other no ally decks, our goal is to build out our DEF stat. We have a base of 3 DEF and can get up to 8 DEF with Innate Reflexes (make sure to play this starting card on turn 1), Armored Vest, Ronin, Defensive Conditioning, and Defense Specialist (clearing Specialized Training). Any extra DEF from The Best Offense... is gravy. After building out our DEF we can prevent all attack damage from defending, and use our DEF to thwart and attack with In Harm's Way and The Best Offense...

One of the biggest issues with this archetype is its slow start and need to prioritize playing protection upgrades, but that's what makes Spidey the perfect hero to run this build. He's very low to the ground, being able to use Scientist on turn 1 for the extra resource, drawing a card from Spider-Sense at least once every round, and the Web-Shooters give us the perfect amount of tempo and economy that we want. In my game against Expert Ronan, I was able to defeat him in 30 minutes while building out my DEF stat to 8 and the Web-Shooters were able to last us and stay in play until the last round - so no need for expensive permanent resource generators like Quincarrier/Helicarrier!

No Double Resources

Economy has always been one of Spider-Man's biggest strengths--he's a resourceful genius! We don't need the double resources because the majority of our cards are 1 cost, and we really want to play as much DEF buffs as soon as possible so we don't want to dilute the deck. On any given turn, Spider-Man will have a minimum of 6 cards in hand because of the extra card draw from Spider-Sense, but once you get Defense Specialist and Unflappable on the table, Spider-Man will normally have 8 cards in hand every round (even more if the villain attacks again).

Backflip is still good?

Backflip doesn't use our DEF stat and doesn't count as a basic defense, so it doesn't synergize with In Harm's Way or Defense Specialist, but it does count as Spidey defending so it will proc the perfect defense engine (Unflappable and Hard to Ignore). Backflip is the best defense event in the game and it's actually perfect for this type of heavy buildout deck because it allows Spider-Man to stay readied up early game while still preventing all damage before he reaches 8 DEF. This relief in damage cannot be understated and is extremely valuable to buy us time.

In Harm's Way

Not all heroes who want to play no ally protection want to include In Harm's Way, especially for a readying hero like Quicksilver who does much better just using The Best Offense... but Spider-Man is arguably the best hero to play in Harm's Way. Even without double resources, Spider-Man can easily afford this event while simultaneously doing other things in the same turn. It also helps him manage threat thwarting for at least 4 (because we will be playing Innate Reflexes on turn 1).

Symbiote Suit & Mitigated Threat

One of my favorite new thematic combos with Spidey. With the minimum 8 cards in hand and potential double Web-Shooters on the table, Spider-Man affords his Symbiote Suit without double resources. Contingency Planning can hold a Mitigated Threat for when you play your suit. We have 3 copies of Mitigated Threat in the deck to deal with nasty hazard icons from side schemes if we aren't able to defeat them right away. We have plenty of threat removal with In Harm's Way, The Best Offense..., and Spider-Tracers, but if we don't draw into any of those cards when a big side scheme comes out, Mitigated Threat allows us to hold it off for a turn or two.

Protection is the Strongest Aspect in 2026

From community polls to livestream discussions, its really not a hot take anymore that protection is the strongest aspect in 2026. It's the aspect to take on the highest difficulties, and is even able to make expert Ronan become one of the easiest games I've ever played. This no ally deck is more dominant against Ronan the Accuser than leadership ally spam decks.

No Doubles is the way with a no ally build! Draw faster into more options. Expert Ronan in the title with a video link in the description as it should be.

@Gnarlantlers Lol of course! And I definitely took inspiration from your plug and play Black Widow list

With the +10 HP from Symbiote Suit and the +3 HP from Defensive Conditioning, what do you think of Dauntless for this deck?

Also, because this deck has such a high basic defense + Stand Alone and/or backflip, have you tried Containment Strategy or Under Control?

Have you tried Taunt?

Great deck! I’ll have to try it next time I play Spider-Man.

Nice work, definitely a very powerful deck. The core package (Innate Reflexes, In Harm's Way, The Best Offense...) is strong enough that there is a lot of room for variation. I tried a Repurpose build that is 10 cards different, and still came out undefeated in 3 games against Expert Ronan. Definitely a case where Spidey really takes full advantage of a build due to his economy.

@AstroAstronaut thanks Astro! It’s just my personal preference, but I usually don’t prioritize retaliate in builds like this so I would pass on Dauntless. I also prefer Mitigated Threat to hold off side schemes instead of the 1 cost Containment Strategy. Under Control I think is really good tech for minion heavy scenarios, and Taunt is just one of those cards I’m not a big fan of outside of tough heroes like Luke or Colossus who don’t have to exhaust for it. I think Peter is one of the best heroes to use for Taunt because of Spider-Sense and Backflip but i usually can’t find room for it.

@akodobill glad the deck played well for you! I hadn’t considered a repurpose variant of this - really cool idea!

Did you think about Counter-Punch? Would have great synergy with The Best Offense..., since you could use it once to attack for about 8 damage in the player phase and then again for the same amount in the villain phase. 8 damage for 1ER is quite insane... Could be more of a rush strategy. Same for "Stop Hitting Yourself" or even Leading Blow. Also I think more then 40 cards would not hurt since i feel in the no ally archetype, Spidermans own cards are not as good. I mean 1 The Best Offense..., 1 Leading Blow and 1 Counter-Punch could wipe out a complete villain stage with 4ER in 1 turn once the DEF is high enough.

Nice! Spidey is so fun with the new protection cards!

Love this! Just one question: would you consider switching out Mitigated Threat and Symbiote Suit for other cards in a 3-4 player game (where their downside start to become more magnified)? If so, what would you take instead?

Sep 17, 2026 Web-Warrior Fanatic · 40035

@eschdi123 Counter Punch is forsure good here, but i personally prioritize keeping the deck at 40 with this build to mulligan into the DEF increasing cards ASAP (like starting off with innate reflexes is huge!)

@Christian_Medic right?!? Hope you enjoyed the list!

@bitsai thanks! Those cards function a bit differently in multiplayer but the decklist still works without changes! In a 4 player game, the hazard icon from Symbiote Suit isn’t as detrimental so as long as you’re blocking for other players regularly they shouldn’t mind the extra encounter card per round haha. As for mitigated threat, I definitely wouldn’t attach this to the Kree Command Ship or Symbiote Suit for more than 1 round because the tax is too much in a high player count game like you said. Mitigated Threat in higher player counts is used here like a 1 turn stall - if there’s a 12 threat crisis icon side scheme in play, but the table doesn’t have enough thwart events that turn to thwart it out and remove enough threat from the main scheme, we can slap mitigated threat to cancel the crisis for the round, then just discard mitigated threat at the end of the round without paying its tax.

I love this deck. I think it helped me fully unlock the power of the no ally archetype. I was trying to use big supports like Avengers Mansion and Quincarrier to stabilize the game, and I failed to realize how powerful Unflappable is in this build. I love the concept of a lightweight economy, and I think it plays perfectly with Spider-Man. Have you thought about building a similar deck for Quicksilver? He is my favorite hero to play with this new archetype, and I think he can shine with most of the cards you included here (especially Symbiote Suit + Mitigated Threat)

@YourFriendlyNeighbor wooo glad you enjoyed the list and glad it helped this archetype click for you!! I love this lightweight approach for Spidey with his web-shooters being his main source of economy. I have tried Quicksilver in this archetype (haven’t posted the video yet) and although he’s not as low to the ground as Spidey his built out board was insane. I didn’t even go Symbiote Suit with Quicksilver so i can only imagine!

Contingency Planning works with Webbed Up, right? Didn't realize it worked with so many other cards too like Spider-Tracer and others.

Sep 22, 2026 YourFriendlyNeighbor · 20

I never thought about it until this deck came out, but it is a nice bonus compared to other heroes (like Quicksilver and Captain America) who do not have any upgrades to attach to encounter cards. I have never used it, but I can see the usefulness of storing a Spider-Tracer for later once the symbiote is set up.

Would love to see you attempt this deck against Red Skull on Expert. Im thinking only Spidey and Nightcrawler are the only ones who could beat him using the Ronin archetype.

protection is the best aspect?? always has been

This deck has to be near the top of best decks ever created. I have absolutely destroyed a ton of villains on Expert. Spider-Man just has so many tools to survive with and this juiced up Ronan deck just takes him over the absolute edge.

Spiderman, not a web warrior, is PERFECT thematically for going it alone. No awkward declarations (I'm a web warrior!) needed.

My only.. criticism.. Is that you don't have ingenious in your genius character build. This is a prestige upgrade.. It's also cheaper than helicarrier.
