Introduction
This deck is inspired by Luke Cage's precon. Luke is so tough that he doesn't rely on chump blockers to stay safe. That allows us to squeeze extra value out of his Defender allies using new support cards instead.
The goal is to get allies down to 1 HP so they get boosted by Righteous Purpose, then keep them alive at 1 HP with Defensive Formation, Teamwork, and Unified Strike.
This ends up being a new pseudo-Voltron strategy, except we're using Supports instead of Upgrades. This makes the deck significantly more versatile and reliable than a traditional Voltron; there's no single point of failure.
The ally of choice is Misty Knight, who ends up consistently having ATK 5 and THW 5. However any of our allies can be the benefactor of RP and DF, and Command Team helps them get down to 1 HP faster.
Allies
The pool of Defenders is limited, but strong. We're taking them all. Without an ally on the board, our Supports are useless.
We aren't strictly limited to Defenders, but they do have the added benefit of working with Fogwell's Gym.
Events
- The Team Ups are strong in this wave. You could also justify adding Iron Fist's Team Up.
- Teamwork and Unified Strike allow us to use Misty's 5/5 stats without spending her Toughness or using up her last HP.
Resources
Just the three doubles will do. We don't have enough targets to justify any "Power of" resources.
Supports
- Avengers Mansion and Helicarrier are the only resource generators we can get our hands on.
- Defensive Formation and Righteous Purpose are the deck's engine.
- Command Team lets us get extra activations out of our pseudo-Voltron as long as we have DF on board to re-apply the tough. It helps get allies down to 1 HP to activate Righteous Purpose. It also has a nice interaction with Patsy. Furthermore, we generally have a lot of heavy hitters with high upfront costs, so Command Team can juice some tempo out of them.
Sideboard
- If playing with the Jessica Jones hero, remove Dynamic Duo and the Jessica Jones ally (using new 1.8 rules; we have the Team-Up). Add any 40th card of your choice; Nick Fury would be fine.
Special mentions
- Ready for Action is a decent way to get extra tough, but it is half as efficient as Defensive Formation
You could do clarity of purpose plus metal bracer as another effective generator.
I love the deck, I am gonna give it a whirl.
