With the new Protection cards dropping, the very first hero I thought of who would get a massive power spike was Wolverine. Boosting his DEF lets him pay for In Harm’s Way with his claws, and suddenly Protection becomes an offensive playstyle instead of a defensive one.

Wolverine starts at a base 2 DEF, but by opening the game with Innate Reflexes, we’re already sitting at 3 DEF before the villain even takes a swing. As the game progresses, we’re digging for Armored Vest and Defensive Conditioning to push that DEF even higher.

Once we find our Ronin card, that’s when the deck really wakes up. Ronin gives us the flexibility to boost whatever stat we need in the moment — but most of the time, that extra DEF is exactly what keeps the engine humming.

Thwarting can become an issue, but that’s where The Best Offense comes in. Turning our DEF into THW solves the problem instantly, and the best part is that we can play more than one copy in a turn. Suddenly Wolverine is thwarting like a Justice hero while still punching like Aggression.

We run no allies because we want everything cheap, fast, and streamlined. That makes the build stronger and keeps our tempo high. Three copies of Army of One give us a 1‑cost ready, which is huge for Wolverine’s action economy.

One of the best combos in the deck is Taunting the villain, defending the hit, drawing cards, and then readying back up with Stand Alone or Army of One. Add in What Doesn’t Kill Me for even more readying and healing, and Wolverine becomes a nonstop machine.

I had a ton of fun playing this build, and I absolutely recommend giving it a whirl. Take this thing into multiplayer and congratulations — you just became the new Justice player without ever leaving Protection.

The Wolverine and In Harm's Way combination is insane. This looks super fun.
