Introduction

Colossus is a dynamic character with a lot of strengths, but one glaring weakness: his hand size. The solution? Flip down every chance we get so we can access our bountiful alter-ego.

We need some way to mitigate all of that extra threat. As you can probably guess from the title, we're going to lean into confuse-lock for that.

This deck is specifically designed to duo with Shadowcat Protection against Magog, but it's also a well-rounded confuse-lock deck for Colossus.

Deckbuilding notes

Colossus has a sick kit that we want to get online ASAP. Meanwhile, we'll also need a solid Justice core to keep schemes at bay.

Our Justice core will be built around Float Like a Butterfly. We'll take at least 2 copies since we can share them.

Next we'll stock up on confuse effects. We want one confuse per round, which is roughly 8 confuses per deck pass. Steel Fist gives us 3. Add Dazzler, X, and a couple of Sonic Rifles and we're there. Concussive Blow is a thematic and mechanical fit, but not quite worth the deck space.

Next we need some allies or events to do the actual thwarting. I personally prefer the consistency and flexibility of allies. We can also leverage Mission Training, which is just a crazy card with OK tempo and insane value.

The rest of the deck basically builds itself. I had to make quite a few cuts to get down to the essentials:

  • Danger Room is worth it for Mission Training since we are flipping constantly.
  • Avengers Mansion helps deal with our hand size problem. Moira is more popular, but AM is a better deal if you can survive the tempo hit.
  • The Raft is just an incredibly fun tech card.
  • Our allies are chosen for confuse effects and/or suitability for Mission Training.

Finally, we'll sprinkle in some electives:

  • Mutant Education lets us recur Armor Up (and other cards).
  • X-Mansion keeps our trained allies in play longer and combos with Mutant Education.
  • Superpower Training helps find Iron Will. If we already have it, we have 3 great alternatives as well.
  • Utopia is mostly just here for the extra ally slot since we're not spamming that many allies.

Sideboard

  • Remove Shadow and Steel if not playing with Kitty.
  • Remove The Raft if there aren't minions that need to be locked up
  • Reduce Float Like a Butterfly to 1 copy if you're over 40 cards and want more consistency.

yes, more people who understand the true value of colossus: flip every turn for lots of cards, toughs, and armor ups. i love that if you don't find your armor up, you've got the backup with confuse. really love colossus in justice.
