LCG Discord Card Spotlight
Goal to build a deck that features the current spotlit card: Ready for a Fight
This card is a new hotness that just hasn't had enough time to be fully explored. Looking over the options that haven't been built, made for a lot of tough choices. In the end I couldn't move my thoughts off of two heroes. Cyclops was the one I landed on for this challenge.
EDIT: I forgot that Cyclops can only get Tactic upgrades. So this doesn't work as well as intended. Still not a bad plan. just not as consistent.
GAME PLAN:
Make Perseverance Flow.
Perseverance is a very cost efficient way to gain Tough status. This card is a Hero Response, for the majority of Heroes this is only useful when going from Alter-Ego to Hero form. As a result, it is rarely run outside of your multi-form Heroes.
A Trait of Perseverance, is that its a Tactic. With Cyclops we now have a means to search this card. Cyclops gets it in AE and can go to Hero form to use it. This does mean that you have to spend a turn in AE and get Schemed on. Obviously player count and Main Scheme affects the severity of this decision. For this deck, lets assume we don't care for the Villain scheming.
We now come to the main attraction, Ready for a Fight. With Ready for a Fight on board, I can have the following turn:
- End turn in Alter-Ego to search out Perseverance then draw up to 6 cards.
- Villain would scheme but we trigger Ready for a Fight.
- We play Perseverance to gain a Tough, eating the damage from the Attack.
- Play our turn with the remaining 4+ cards in hand.
- Repeat.
Increasing the ability to Repeat.
- Practiced Plan gives me extra copies of Ready for a Fight.
- Defensive Training gives me extra copies of Perseverance. This is a card that doesn't see a ton of play for me, so I'm happy to get an opportunity to really use this card.
Supporting the Loop
- The X-Jet is there to support the resource requirement of Ready for a Fight. I can also use Exploit Weakness as a searched resource if necessary but I'd prefer to play those.
- Moira MacTaggert fits perfectly in a deck that wants to change to Hero every turn if possible.
- Build Support is great even if you get all of the X-Supports out, because Defensive Training will end up in the Discard.
Allies
These are the best of the 2 cost allies for this deck. Once this deck is fully online, you should be able to play an ally, a Cyclops card, and Optic Blast. Tailor the list as you see fit with other X-men allies to fit the encounter.
Another nice part of this deck, you don't have to save up ally activations for chump blocking in low player counts. 3+ you should have an extra ally to chump for teammates.
ALTERNATE CONSIDERATIONS:
Practiced Plan #3 - Its max 1 per player and is only good with Ready for a Fight. 2 Felt like the correct number.
All of the other AE X-Supports - We want to shuffle, so we can get Ready for a Fight back in the deck. Therefore we want to be as lean as we reasonably can be. There is a concept for Cerebro, X-Men Instruction, & Armor loops. However I feel that belongs in the Psionic heroes.
Great idea here. Unfortunately, Perseverance is a Tactic event, and Cyclops's Alter Ego action only searches for Tactic Upgrades. It doesn't stop the combo, but it makes it less reliable.
