Hulk versus Venom (Expert)

Come Get Hulk, Puny Bub!

This deck revolves around "Come Get Me, Bub!" a new protection card from Nightcrawler's hero pack.

Key Cards & Synergies

  1. Puny Minion Slaying - Immovable Object is our key identity-specific upgrade. Giving Hulk +4 HP is amazing and the retaliate 1 allows Hulk to defeat enemies during the villain phase to trigger Change of Fortune. Electrostatic Armor and Powerful Punch are the other ways that Hulk can defeat minions during the villain phase. "Come Get Me, Bub!" ensures that we get minions into play to get the combo off while also getting free healing and a tough status card for when the villain attacks.

  2. Perfect Defense - Hulk has a base 3 defense, Armored Vest is +1 putting him up to a defense stat of 4. Against the lower attacking villains in the game, Hulk can usually fully defend their attacks with a basic defense activation and playing Desperate Defense for the +2 will fully block out damage from most villains. It's not ideal but if necessary we can even use the tough status card from "Come Get Me, Bub!" to fully defend an attack to trigger the effects of Unflappable and Hard to Ignore.

  3. Threat Removal - Aside from minion slaying during the villain phase, Hulk needs to remove threat. The main way with this deck is with 3x Hard to Ignore. This is not a thwart activation so it works with patrol minions and if Hulk is confused. Usually, building the perfect defense engine is dangerous to the hero's health because we have to survive several turns of villain activations, but Hulk has 18 printed hit points so he just take several attacks to the face. The disadvantageous is his hero ability, Enraged, where he's forced to discard his hand at the end of each player turn. Because of this, I prefer to not mulligan very hard because we cannot hold key upgrades like Hard to Ignore in our hand to play next turn, they must be discarded. It's crucial to lean into Hulk's strengths of being able to take damage and be mindful of his biggest weakness in this deck (his hero ability making him discard).

Power Level

This deck isn't meant to be used against the most difficult villains in the game like Expert Ronan or Venom Goblin. It's just a fun way to play Hulk in the green aspect and have him hold his own in true solo. This list will work better in multiplayer where there is more breathing room to build out Hulk's defensive engine. Like most perfect defense builds, once Hulk is set up he's unstoppable!
