I'll lead with saying that I think Protection is almost certainly the best aspect for Drax. Drax really wants to stay in hero form, and Protection has all the tools to allow that. You have a lot of events to mitigate damage, and Med Team to keep Mantis alive to heal you (or heal yourself, if Mantis hasn't shown up yet).

However, there's something inside me that really liked the idea about using those knives of his to make Mean Swing a heavy hitter. The problem then became: How do I stay in Hero form?

Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah (Stayin' Alive)

Really, with Drax, all you want to do is just live in hero form and make basic attacks. The first step of that is "live," so lets focus on that first.

Firstly, I'm actually running 3 First Aid, and that's mostly for Mantis' benefit. Sure, I'll use one on myself if I have free resources and I'm still looking for her, but they're really for her. Used on her, it's basically a heal 6, rather than a heal 2, which makes the 1 cost much more palatable.

Next, I added in the usual suspect for staying in hero form in Aggression: Moment of Triumph. Usually I go for 2 of them in my Aggression decks, but this time I went for the full 3, since I really want to see it when I have the opportunity to use it. As I said, all Drax wants to do is live in hero form, and this gets us there.

Basic (Attack) Bitch

So we've now moved on to the second thing Drax likes. Making that big ol' attack.

The first thing I wanted to do was find things that made Moment of Triumph overkill the hell outa things. However, in a deck where you have a 4-card hero hand-size, things like Into the Fray just cost too damn much, especially if you draw any set-up card you actually want to play. But you also don't really want to use Mean Swing and smash the hell out of a minion, because then you're spending 2 cards (Swing and Triumph) to heal, and it just kinda feels bad.

Fortunately, in addition to Drax's knife and Drax's other knife, Drax is packing heat in the for of a couple Hand Cannons as well. And yes, I know that it competes with the Restricted slots of Drax's knives. This is fine for 2 reasons. Firstly, I don't really give a crap about Drax's second knife, as Retaliate is fine, but not really necessary. Secondly, because that Honorary Avenger card that's illegal in this deck is a stand-in for Side Holster. Sure, it technically doesn't exist until Venom releases, but I won't tell FFG if you don't. This allows us to have 2 knives and a gun!

And man does Overkill-On-A-Stick ever solve some problems. All of a sudden, you can use that Mean Swing on your dagger while you're blasting away with your Hand Cannon and your 6 base attack, and suddenly you're attacking some poor fool minion for 11 with a large portion of that overkilling onto the Villain while Moment of Triumph turns that overkill into healing.

The final goody for your attacks is C.I.T.T., which I kinda think is usually a garbage-ish card. You just never have time to play the thing for 2 and then also want to spend 2 resources to ready a hero. ...Except when you have 6 attack and attacking also draws you a card. You know what? Then this thing is pretty frickin great.

I dunno, the rest of the cards

So the allies are mostly just here because they're cheap, and sometimes can block for you in a pinch (although this means you don't get a counter or draw a card). Bug basically gets to do a damage a turn, so that's cool too, especially if Tough cards show up. Angela is a special inclusion because she can draw you a minion if you need it to heal off of.

The kinda flex slots are the second copy of Combat Training and the Looking For Trouble. I think the deck wants some amount of Looking For Trouble, just as a little more threat control as well as an ability to get a minion for healing. This might be 1, it might be 2... it might be 0? Combat Training is here in duplicate because you really want to pump up your attack quickly, and this helps do that. You can reliably pitch the other copy to C.I.T.T. the second time through the deck, so extra copies don't really hurt.

Glad to see someone else trying aggro!

I tried your list last night and I have to say I massively enjoyed the Aggression build!

I was able to stay in hero mode for way longer than I thought possible outside of Protection, and quite often was swinging for 5+ damage!

Great deck list. Thanks for sharing.

Now that Side Holster is out, I'd recommend taking out a copy of Combat Training, and replacing it with Side Holster. It lets you have both knives equipped, which both thins the deck out more (since you get to play 2 more cards: Side Holster and Drax's Other Knife), and lets you use multiple copies of Mean Swing while also using Hand Cannon. Also, less dead cards!
