Deck Overview

This is a medium complexity deck that increases what you can do turn to turn, giving you flexibility to solve whatever problems you need and never leaving you with hands full of resources you can't use to impact the game. It also avoids some of the classic "resource dumps" common in Bishop decks like Machine Man and Lockjaw in favor of more interesting and effective combos.

This deck has been tested against a variety of scenarios and player counts, and performed really well! It is able to consistently manage the problems that arise on the board and can flex into whatever role the table needs. And most importantly, it's fun!

Player Type: Spike
Player Count: 1-4p
Key Cards: Med Lab, Won't Stay Down
Complexity: ★★★☆☆
Damage: ★★★★☆
Threat Control: ★★★★☆
Survivability: ★★★★☆
Economy: ★★★★★
Card Drawing: ★★★☆☆

Deck Description

The central idea of the deck is to become the Trash Man, and use what others might call trash, refuse, or even discard to find gems that will help you along your way.

First, let's go about getting cards into your hand to have a way to spend your resources. This deck has a lot of ways to get things into your hand:

  1. Avengers Mansion and Symbiote Suit increase your hand size to see more cards; Symbiote Suit also increases the number of times you can use your Energy Absorption ability
  2. Won't Stay Down gets you an ally into your hand (in AE)
  3. Use Specialized Training to grab Front Line Specialist to draw an additional card when you take damage and trigger your Energy Absorption ability
  4. Beast gets a resource to hand
  5. Weapon X gets a card to hand in exchange for 1 HP (in AE)
  6. Black Panther pulls Make the Call out of the discard pile and holds it for you, letting you sink resources into it when you need to
  7. Your Temporarily Displaced ability gets you a card into your hand at just the right time for a lot of actions you want to do in AE

Note that flipping down keeps most of your cards active!

The same goes for the responses on your allies:

Second, let's get things out of the trash. Most of your cards will be played from your discard pile:

  1. Make the Call gets allies out of your (or another player's, if you want to go dumpster diving at your neighbor's house) discard pile
  2. Black Panther gets Make the Call from the trash
  3. Pixie loves dumpster diving for you--she gets an X-Men ally from your discard pile to hand
  4. Won't Stay Down can be triggered in AE to pull an ally back to hand, and when you flip down you can trigger your Temporally Displaced ability to get a double resource to hand to pay for it
  5. Use your AE response after flipping down to pull Stored Energy to hand, and pay for an ally with Make the Call, Won't Stay Down, or Med Lab

Remember that Med Lab plays allies as if they were in your hand, but they enter exhausted. With most of our allies, this doesn't matter:

Note: An important consideration during play is to monitor what is in the discard pile, and how close to resetting your deck you are. Timing when you flip and use Med Lab or Won't Stay Down, or when to play Black Panther, depend on what is in your discard pile.

I’ve seen this deck in action a few times now. And serious. What a pile of garbage.

Dumpster diving is the best way to play Bishop, looks fun! Think you weren't a fan in the past, are you coming around to Bishop?

Nov 12, 2025 boomguy · 11425

@VJakson I'm not ashamed to have dumpster dived with you watching.

@HeroicSkeleton I don't think so. Overall, I don't love his play loop, but I still like to have something functional and fun to play with a hero even if I don't like them overall. And I'm a sucker for punishing myself, so after this I will surely find my way back to Falcon...

I’m a huge fan of Bishop—but I haven’t built a good Leadership deck for him yet. I like the interactions, but I cut this down to 40. Removed Symbiote Suit, Plan B, 1x Won’t Stay Down, and 2x Command Team…Still has the heart of the deck. Pretty fun.

Love Bishop, maybe you're coming around...

Nov 12, 2025 boomguy · 11425

@thom1977 the list is flexible, and you can surely swap anything that doesn’t fit your play style. Hope you enjoy it!

@corbintm I don’t think so, but miracles happen…

@Rey Plays Games can’t wait to record gameplay! I’ll add a link when it’s up.

This deck is really powerful. After playing a few times, I can say that it's my favorite Bishop deck so far!

Nov 13, 2025 josseroo · 1169

I was thinking the same as cobintm, that maybe your were warming up a bit to Bishop

Nov 13, 2025 boomguy · 11425

@Tahiro Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as I do.

@josseroo not quite there yet--are you a Bishop enthusiast?

Nov 14, 2025 thom1977 · 269

After a few more plays, I’m liking this build more and more. Bishop is just relaxing to play. Once built up, you can enjoy a good victory.

@thom1977 That’s awesome! I’ve played it quite a bit as well over the last few weeks while testing a d tweaking it. It’s a good time. Thanks for checking it out!

Getting to see this deck in action was so much fun! It was crazy to see how you always had an answer for the table. It was peak leadership and peak Bishop. It looked super fun to play, and it was definitely fun to pair with

Nov 14, 2025 Tahiro · 1

@boomguy Do you typically play Symbiote Suit the moment you see it or play it on a later deck pass once you are more setup on the board to deal with the extra encounter card?

Nov 14, 2025 boomguy · 11425

@Tahiro I play it as soon as I can, and I usually mulligan hard to find it. It’s important for how this deck works. You want to be taking damage, and you want to have more (playable) cards in hand (more than most heroes). I generally don’t play Symbiote Suit in many decks, but it’s here for specific reasons—so use it!

It frees you up to take damage and use his ability to get cards to hand without having to recover as much. I’m never defending with Allie’s unless another player at the table needs defense, and even then I’m usually defending for them with Bishop.

Love Med Lab! You have a lot of good garbage to target with it.

Nov 14, 2025 mournful · 100

Looks like a fun recursion deck! Love heroes with a big discard pile for that.

Write-up made me curious how common Machine Man and Lockjaw are in Bishop decks.

408 Bishop decks on marvelcdb. 79 with Lockjaw, 46 with Machine Man, 31 with both.

Not actually that common. I wonder if popular deck-builders use them and it gives them the illusion of being common because those decks get significantly more attention.

I don't tend to use either in Leadership because I like him with the X-men package so much, and they turn off Utopia and Uncanny X-Men.

Nov 14, 2025 boomguy · 11425

@Man-is-Obsolete garbage in, garbage out!

@mournful interesting stats, thanks for checking it out!

I keep coming back to what a great example of a Spike deck this is. :D

Bishop: 12hp/4 Rec, X-Men traited, cheap uncapped damage upgrade, cheap uncapped healing upgrade, rich, cycles his deck as fast as a Mystic. Spike.

Leadership: Spike leaning.

10 Allies, 7 with "when played" effects. Spike.

Core mechanic: Recursion. Spiiiiiiiiiike.

Nov 15, 2025 boomguy · 11425

@mournful Are you saying I have some Spike in me?! Impossible…I’m a Johnny xD

Nov 15, 2025 mournful · 100

You're def a Johnny, but you built a great Spike deck. :D

Nov 16, 2025 AbisMal · 1755

I love the creative way this puts extra cards in your hand to use with Bishop's abundance of resources! And the GIF is perfect! Might not have needed anything else in the deck description after that, but I'm glad I read it all the same. LOL.

Oh, and I like the Adam Warlock/Stored Energy combo a lot. As soon as I saw him in the deck, I thought, I wonder which abilities this'll trigger for him!

Nov 16, 2025 boomguy · 11425

@AbisMal Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the writeup and I am glad it wasn’t gratuitous :)

Was reading through the deck list, the description of the deck, and got halfway through the comments until the lightbulb flashed on in my head. "Oh my Godzilla it's a zombie deck!!" I knew leadership is the number one aspect for bringing back allies, but this deck is making Bishop look like a necromancer. Definitely, def-in-itely, will be building this to see how it goes. Very, very much excited!

@AjaxWrex88 Let me know how it goes!
